I am sorry to inform the Berkeley High School community that on 
Thursday, November 24, senior Yonas Mehari was killed.  Yonas was a 
beloved member of the Berkeley High community, a successful and 
talented student who spent many hours tutoring others.  He was a member 
of Youth and Government and was in the process of forming an 
Eritrean-Ethiopian club at school. In addition, he ran cross country in 
past years and this year was a member of the BHS varsity soccer team. 
He also participated in Student Court. He will be deeply missed by many 
students and staff.

The family is raising funds so that Yonas can be buried in his homeland 
of Eritrea, along with his mother and sister who died at the same time.
