Administration
1. If you are teenager who owes money to the Berkeley public Library,
we will forgive your fines in exchange for a bit of reading. Read
1-2 hours on Tuesday October 17 or Wednesday, October 18 from 3:30 -
5:30 pm. Come to the Central Library's 3rd floor meeting room.
Individual cases may vary. Sorry, we cannot erase fines for

2. Close-Up: It's Close-Up time, again. Close Up is a week long study trip
to Washington D.C., our nations capital- for a hands on, close up study
of government. Meeting Senators, Congress people, the leaders of our
National Government and seeing how Government functions. Berkeley High
has been involved in Close-Up for more than thirty years and invites
students who are interested to meet and prepare for March, 2007. Our
first informational meeting will be Thursday, 10/12 at lunch in G201.
Questions to Mr. Collier, in G201 or Mr. Angell in C334. Come for
information and bring your lunch.
3. BHS 2006 Spirit Week is October 16-20th Dress days are as follows:
Monday: Super Hero Day; Tuesday: Celebrity Day
Wednesday: Western Day; Thursday: Seniors-80's Day/ underclassmen wear
Pajamas; Friday: Red and Gold Day (Homecoming Day)
4. Students and staff, please check the Parent Resource Center for lost
items- Items will be kept for a 2 month period. All items not claimed
will be donated to a shelter for persons in need. If anyone lost a ring
please contact the Parent Center in room D224 or call 644-8524.
5. Job openings:
City of Berkeley YouthWorks Program will pass out Applications for
after school jobs: Contact 981-4970 for more information. Go to 1947
Center St (basement). All Berkeley Residents, only ages 14-19.
Clubs
*1. If you want to attend the Lenaea Festival as an actor, director or
musical theatre performer or just come and watch the fun shows- come to
the Thursday at lunch meetings in A203.
*2. Come to the second Asian Pacific Islanders Committee meeting at lunch
today. This is an opportunity to meet new people and learn about various
Asian cultures. Remember, the meeting will be in room C327 today at lunch.
*3. Do you want to change the world? Come to the informational meeting of
Youth Together Against AIDS in room G212 at lunch today. You will get a
free t-shirt and snacks.
*4. Hey what's up Berkeley High? "Youth Together" will be meeting today at
3:30 PM in room A205. Come through!
Sports
*1. The girls volleyball game versus Encinal was moved from Tuesday, 10/10 to
this Friday, 10/13. Come see the girls, currently undefeated in league,
play one of their top league opponents. Game times 4:00 JV/ 5:30 varsity.
*2. Anybody who is interested in playing boys soccer this upcoming
season must go to an informative meeting on Friday, at lunch, October
13th.
*3. Attention all students who intend to try out for soccer, basketball, or
wrestling: Tryouts begin on Monday, Nov. 6th. You must have a complete
athletic packet with a valid physical ready to turn in to your coach on
the first day of tryouts. Packets are available in the front office or in
the athletic office. **If you haven't had a physical in the last year,
you must schedule one immediately with your doctor or at the BHS Health
Center!
*4. Boys' Lacrosse Meeting: All students interested in playing on the
boys' lacrosse team this spring (junior varsity and varsity) should
come to a pre-season meeting Thursday, October 19th after school
(3:20 pm) at the turf bleachers.
*5. All girls interested in playing soccer for Berkeley High must come to a
meeting on Monday, October 16th at lunchtime at the turf bleachers.
Senior / Junior Section
*1. Seniors! You must be at school at 7:45 am on October 20th for the
Senior Spell out. If you are late, you will miss it!
2. BLACK COLLEGE TOUR-visit Clark, Atlanta, Tuskegee, Southern and more.
April 1-7 (during BHS spring break). Informational meeting will be held on
Saturday, October 14 at 1:00 PM, Rock of Truth Baptist Church, 459 61st
St., Oakland. For more information, contact Ivery McKnight at
510-798-1654.
3. Seniors! The Last day to take Senior portraits and have your picture
in the yearbook is October 28th. Call ABC Harrell or go to their website
to make your appointment.
4. Senior weekend and baby pictures are due October 27th. Please put
them in a self addressed stamped envelope with your name on the back.
High resolution CD are accepted. Please turn in to the main office.
5. College visits to Berkeley High--Seniors: Sign up in D221 to
attend college presentations. You must also pick up an authorization
form for your teacher to sign so that you may miss class.

Events/ Performances
*1. Vagina, yes I said it! "The Vagina Monologues" are back! Come to an
informational meeting at lunch on Wednesday, October 18th in room C224 to
find out more. All women and friendly men are welcome.
Sales
1. Bart Tickets are here for October please pick up your tickets at
lunchtime.
2. Yearbooks will be on sale during 7th period today. Price is set
at $65.00, check, money order or cash only. You can purchase them in
H102.
3. Letter jacket sales go on every lunch and immediately after school
during the first week of October. Jackets are available for sizing.
Letters and insignias may be purchased directly from the athletic
office. Anyone may purchase a jacket, but you must have earned an
athletic letter in order to purchase one. Jackets are available in
red w/ cream or black w/ black sleeves. Price includes your name and
all insignias sewn in. Approximate cost is $170 per jacket.
