STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN

Administration

*1. This year's first open trial of the Berkeley High Student Court will
take place today, Wednesday, October 11th at 5:00 PM in the Berkeley City
Council Chambers.  It is a great opportunity to earn community service
credit, to earn extra credit for certain teachers, and most importantly to
put student discipline in the hands of students.  The City Council
Chambers is in the green-domed building at the corner of MLK and Allston,
across the street from the H building.  Snacks will be served.

*2. Close-Up: It's Close-Up time, again.  Close Up is a week long study trip
to Washington D.C., our nations capital- for a hands on, close up study
of government.  Meeting Senators, Congress people, the leaders of our
National Government and seeing how Government functions.  Berkeley High
has been involved in Close-Up for more than thirty years and invites
students who are interested to meet and prepare for March, 2007.  Our
first informational meeting will be Thursday, 10/12 at lunch in G201.
Questions to Mr. Collier, in G201 or Mr. Angell in C334.  Come for
information and bring your lunch.

3. BSEP Meeting on Wednesday, October 11th from 4:30 - 6:00 PM in
conference room B.  Agenda items:  Members and alternates
pick up name tags and handouts.  Establish a quorum.  Approval of
minutes; Approval of Agenda- Additions; Chair report; Elect
Chairperson; Select 4 rep to the BSEP Planning and Oversight; Select
2 representation to Shared Government; Plan for evaluation; Set
upcoming meetings

4. If you are teenager who owes money to the Berkeley public Library,
we will forgive your fines in exchange for a bit of reading.  Read
1-2 hours on Tuesday October 17 or Wednesday, October 18 from 3:30 -
5:30 pm.  Come to the Central Library's  3rd floor meeting room.
Individual cases may vary.  Sorry, we cannot erase fines for

5. Homecoming Royalty applications at the front desk are due today,
October 11th.

6. BHS 2006 Spirit Week is October 16-20th  Dress days are as follows:
Monday: Super Hero Day;   Tuesday: Celebrity Day
Wednesday: Western Day;  Thursday: Seniors-80's Day/ underclassmen wear
Pajamas;  Friday: Red and Gold Day (Homecoming Day)

7. Students and staff, please check the Parent Resource Center for lost
items- Items will be kept for a 2 month period.  All items not claimed
will be donated to a shelter for persons in need.  If anyone lost a ring
please contact the Parent Center in room D224 or call 644-8524.

8. Job openings:
City of Berkeley YouthWorks Program will pass out Applications for
after school jobs:  Contact 981-4970 for more information. Go to 1947
Center St (basement). All Berkeley Residents, only ages 14-19.

Clubs

*1. Come join us at lunch in G111 for Chicano-Latino graduation planning.

*2. You are invited to BYA for Teen Center Open House tonight.  Wednesday,
October 11th from 6:00-8:00 pm.  For more information call -510-845-9067.
Door prizes for the first 25 people.  Food, 3 on 3 basketball Tournament,
pool and Ping-Pong Tournament, Madden 07, and Dance.

Sports

*1. All girls interested in playing soccer for Berkeley High must come to a
meeting on Monday, October 16th at lunchtime at the turf bleachers.

2. Potential Basketball Players- you must have a physical in order
to try out for the team.  Try-outs will begin November 6th.

Senior / Junior Section

*1. BLACK COLLEGE TOUR-visit Clark, Atlanta, Tuskegee, Southern and more.
April 1-7 (during BHS spring break). Informational meeting will be held on
Saturday, October 14 at 1:00 PM, Rock of Truth Baptist Church, 459  61st
St., Oakland.  For more information, contact Ivery McKnight at

2. ESSAY Writing workshops:  You must sign up in D221 to attend.
      October 11, 3:30 PM in Conference room A.  More to come.

3. Seniors!  The Last day to take Senior portraits and have your picture
in the yearbook is October 28th.  Call ABC Harrell or go to their website
to make your appointment.

4. Senior weekend and baby pictures are due October 27th.  Please put
them in a self addressed stamped envelope with your name on the back.
High resolution CD are accepted.  Please turn in to the main office.

5. College visits to Berkeley High--Seniors: Sign up in D221 to
attend college presentations. You must also pick up an authorization
form for your teacher to sign so that you may miss class.

Events/ Performances

Sales

*1. Bart Tickets are here for October please pick up your tickets at
lunchtime.

2. Yearbooks will be on sale during 7th period today.  Price is set
at $65.00, check, money order or cash only.  You can purchase them in
H102.

3. Letter jacket sales go on every lunch and immediately after school
during the first week of October.  Jackets are available for sizing.
Letters and insignias may be purchased directly from the athletic
office.  Anyone may purchase a jacket, but you must have earned an
athletic letter in order to purchase one.  Jackets are available in
red w/ cream or black w/ black sleeves.  Price includes your name and
all insignias sewn in. Approximate cost is $170 per jacket.
