Next week is Berkeley High's Annual Spirit Week designed and promoted
by the student government to build school spirit. Every day is a
different themed dress-up day with Friday culminating in Red and Gold
Day, the senior Spell-Out for the yearbook picture (7:30 in the
morning), the Spirit Rally, and in the evening the Homecoming game
against De Anza High School. There is music on the steps of the
community theater most days at lunch.
The complete dress up and activity schedule is below. In order to
accommodate the Rally, Friday is a Shortened Day with periods running
45 minutes instead of the usual 55. Students will go directly from
their 6th period class to the rally leaving their backpacks in the
classroom (or home). The Rally is optional, but it is also a lot of
fun - students compete by class for the most spirit and the
Homecoming court is introduced.
Monday is Super Heroes and Villains;
Tuesday is Celebrity Day;
Wednesday is Western Day and will feature noon time music and line
dancing;
Thursday the seniors come in 80s attire and the rest of the school
wears pajamas;
Friday is RED and GOLD Day with the senior Spell-out at 7:30 am, the
Spirit RALLY in the Afternoon, and the Homecoming Game vs DeAnza in
the evening.
Now, for the volunteer call:
1. The administration is looking for several pairs of volunteers
(parents, grandparents or guardians) to add to the adult presence
during the noontime festivities Monday through Thursday. Noon time
is actually 11:30 to 12:15.
2. The administration is looking for at least 12 parents,
grandparents or guardians to help direct traffic at the rally. If you
can help, please wear Red and Yellow, come to the Office 10 a.m. to 2
p.m. to sign in and get a volunteer badge.
If you can help during the lunch hour or on Friday afternoon, please
contact me, Janet Huseby at jhuseby at pacbell.net or 527-1130, so I can
keep count of the volunteers. Thank you very much.
