Administration

*1. Earn community service for a college resume by planting and
cleaning up the courtyards of BHS. Monday, October 9th from 9-5pm,
rain or shine.  You can come and leave any time between!  All BUSD
students and their parents welcome.  Meet at the main entrance.

2. Attention all sophomores and juniors: sign ups for the PSAT
through today, October 6th, at lunch and after school until 4 PM at
the D building ticket window on Allston way.  The fee for the test is
$22.00 cash or money order payable to Berkeley High School.  The test
is on Saturday, October 21st, 8 AM, here at Berkeley High.

3. Staff Development day is October 9th.  No school for students.

4. BSEP Meeting on Wednesday, October 11th from 4:30 - 6:00pm. in
conference room B.  Agenda items:  4:30 pm Members and alternates
pick up name tags and handouts.  Establish a quorum.  Approval of
minutes; Approval of Agenda- Additions; Chair report; Elect
Chairperson; Select 4 rep to the BSEP Planning and Oversight; Select
2 representation to Shared Government; Plan for evaluation; Set up
upcoming meetings

5. If you are teenager who owes money to the Berkeley public Library,
we will forgive your fines in exchange for a bit of reading.  Read
1-2 hours on Tuesday October 17 or Wednesday, October 18 from 3:30 -
5:30 pm.  Come to the Central Library's  3rd floor meeting room.
Individual cases may vary.  Sorry, we cannot erase fines for

6. Homecoming Royalty applications at the front desk.  Due Wednesday,
October 11th.

7. Job openings:
City of Berkeley YouthWorks Program will pass out Applications for
after school jobs:  Contact 981-4970 for more information. Go to 1947
Center St (basement). All Berkeley Residents, only ages 14-19.

8. BHS 2006 Spirit Week is October 16-20th! Dress days are as
follows: Monday: Super Hero Day;  Tuesday: Celebrity Day; Wednesday:
Western Day;  Thursday: Seniors-80's Day / underclassmen wear
Pajamas;  Friday: Red and Gold Day (Homecoming Day)


Clubs

*1. Come to the First BBQ club event on Friday, October 6th.  We will
be serving delicious meat for all to buy.  There will also be a DJ
playing music.  So come on out and get your grill on!  We will be
behind the C building at the green.

2. Ping Pong Club every Tuesday and Friday at lunch in the old gym
Ping Pong room.

3. Are you down with God?  Come to Youth for Christ Fridays at lunch
in G201.


Sports

*1. All Berkeley High Students interested in playing open field pick
up soccer, are welcome to come to the BHS turf today, Friday 10/6,
from 4:15 - 6:15 pm.

*2. Congratulations to the girls varsity field hockey team.  They
beat University High School last Friday, 1-0, with the goal score by
Celeste Swain in a 7 on 7 sudden heat period with 9 seconds
remaining!

*3. Potential Basketball Players- you must have a physical in order
to try out for the team.  Try-outs will begin November 6th.

4. Come play for the Berkeley High Ultimate Frisbee Team.  Everyone's
welcome.  Freshman through Seniors, boys and girls.  Tryouts are
after school, Friday, October 6th from 4 to 6.  Don't miss it.

5. All girls interested in playing club softball this fall may
contact Coach Run Hunt at 1-800-826-9950 or come out to practice
every Wednesday and Friday from 4-6 PM at Grove Park. We also
practice on Monday 10/2, 10/23, and 10/30.  All girls are encouraged
to come out and play ball.

Senior / Junior Section

*1. Seniors!  The Last day to take Senior portraits and have your
picture in the yearbook is October 28th.  Call ABC Harrell or go to
their website to make your appointment.

2. Senior weekend and baby pictures are due October 27th.  Please put
them in a self addressed stamped envelope with your name on the back.
High resolution CD are accepted.  Please turn in to the main office.

3. ESSAY Writing workshops:  You must sign up in D221 to attend.
       October 10, 7:30 am in the College Career Center.
       October 11, 3:30 pm in Conference room A.  More to come.

*4. College visits to Berkeley High--Seniors: Sign up in D221 to
attend college presentations. You must also pick up an authorization
form for your teacher to sign so that you may miss class.

Events/ Performances

1. Please bring friends, relatives and colleagues to the Little
Theater at 7:00 pm this Thursday, October 5, for the big screen debut
of the MexEx 2006 videos, filmed in Morella, Michoacan by CAS
students this summer.  International  trips are a very important part
of CAS.  Six short films. Questions and Answers with the student
filmmakers afterwards.  $5 - $10 sliding scale, BHS students are
free.  Food and drinks for sale.


Sales

1. Yearbooks will be on sale during 7th period today.  Price is set
at $65.00, check, money order or cash only.  You can purchase them in
H102.

2. Letter jacket sales go on every lunch and immediately after school
during the first week of October.  Jackets are available for sizing.
Letters and insignias may be purchased directly from the athletic
office.  Anyone may purchase a jacket, but you must have earned an
athletic letter in order to purchase one.  Jackets are available in
red w/ cream or black w/ black sleeves.  Price includes your name and
all insignias sewn in. Approximate cost is $170 per jacket.
