SAT WORD OF THE DAY:  CREDULITY – willingness to believe something; 
gullibility.  I tested my teacher’s credulity when I explained that I 
was late because I had been kidnapped by a UFO.

JOB INFORMATION
SCORE! in Albany is seeking Advantage Coaches to join our team and help 
us fulfill our mission. SCORE! helps children of all learning levels, 
K-10, make academic progress in a fun and motivating environment.  
SCORE! Advantage Coaches: Serve as academic role models, explain math, 
reading and supplemental subject concepts clearly while encouraging 
students to build confidence.  The Requirements are: being an excellent 
role model, 3.0 GPA or higher, completion of Algebra II math course, 
strong aptitude and enthusiasm for working with children, weekday 
and/or weekend availability, 10 or more hours per week.  For more

  $7per hour.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
Teen volunteers are needed to assist with Youth Group for teens with 
disabilities, ages 12-21.  Volunteers without disabilities are 
“buddies” to assist with hands-on activities and shared experiences.  
Friday evenings, 6:30-9:00 pm, Francis Albrier Recreation Center, San 
Pablo Park, 2800 Park St, near Oregon off Sacramento.  Dates are:  
September 15, October 20 and November 17.  Call 547-7322, x12 for more

FREE SAT PREP CLASS – People’s Test Preparation Service is offering a 
free class to BHS students.  Class will be held on Tuesdays and 
Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 in Room H206.  One day will focus on the 
Critical Reading section and the other day will focus on math.  The 
first class will be on Wednesday, September 20.  No sign-up is 
necessary.

FOR ALL STUDENTS
CSF Community Service – If you want to join CSF, three hours of 
community service and $15 of fundraising are required.  The community 
service hours cannot substitute or overlap with math class tutoring.  
The deadline to complete your community service hours is January 24, 
2007.  If you have any questions, contact the CSF president, Natalie 
Gaber at nataliegaber at comcast.net.

COLLEGE INFORMATION DAY
Saturday, September 30 from 8:30 to 1:00 at UC Berkeley Wheeler Hall.  
Over 60 public and private college and university representatives will 
be available to speak with you about their colleges.  You can 
pre-register at www.eastbayconsortium.org at no cost.  This is a great 
opportunity for all students to find out more about many colleges from 
around the country.

PSAT – many of you have inquired about the PSAT.  It will be offered at 
Berkeley High on Saturday, October 21.  Students will be able to 
register at Berkeley High.  We will post more information as it becomes 
available.

the week of September 25.

also pick up an authorization form for your teacher to sign so that you 
may miss his or her class.  This is a great opportunity to find out

the October 14 SAT and SAT subject tests.  Register at

Students can choose whether or not to take the optional writing section 
on the ACT.  Go to www.actstudent.org/writing for a list of colleges 
that have provided information about their policy on the writing 
section.

AXA Achievement Scholarship – Open to current seniors who are U.S. 
citizens or permanent residents who are planning to enroll in a two or 
four year college in the fall and have shown outstanding achievement in 
school, the community or workplace.  Scholarships range from $10,000 to 
$25,000.  Deadline:  December 15.

Horatio Alger Association – Open to seniors graduating in 2007 who plan 
to start college in the fall with gross family income under $50,000 and 
a minimum GPA of 2.0.  Must be a US citizen or permanent resident.  
Scholarships range from $1000 to $20,000.  Apply at
