Administration
1. Who are you voting for? The BHS Student Body Elections are
happening on Wednesday, May 31st during 2nd period. You can hear
from all your candidates today in the courtyard at lunch. Come out
and hear their goals for Student government and meet the candidates.
2. All library books are due back Friday, May 26th without
exception! The library will open for in-library use until the end of
the year.
3. Coordinated School Health Program meets Wednesday, May 24th
at 3:30 PM in conference room B. Light refreshment will be served.

4. The Search is on for America's Next top Artist! Students,
faculty, and staff- The Health Center is seeking a logo to be used
for publications. Winner receives a $100 gift certificate to Amoeba
Music. Contest starts immediately. All entries must be submitted by
June 5th. Official entry forms can be picked up at the front desk of
the Health Center, H105. Computer graphics or ink drawings accepted.
5. Today- an information meeting for Interested New BTSA support
providers at 1720 Oregon Street from 4-5:15 pm. Questions call Jan
Goodman at 644-6337.
6. The next Berkeley High School Site Council meeting will be
today, May 23rd, 4:30-6:00 PM in conference room B. The main agenda
items are: first semester grades and Small Schools data, Student
Support Coordination and a proposal to merge Shared Governance and
Site Council.
Clubs
1. Celebration of excellence ceremony, Black Graduation, is having a
mandatory meeting, Thursday, May 25th at lunch in H214. All
participating seniors need to be in attendance. Seniors may still
sign up to
participate.
Sports
1. Open gym volleyball is available on Thursdays 4:30-5:30 in
the Donahue Gym on 5/25, 6/1. Open gym is available to all Berkeley
High Girls.
2. Let's welcome the new Varsity Basketball coach- Mr. Brian Guinn.
3. Football practice- starts Tuesday, May 23rd!! Football Field
at 3:45p.m. All are welcome to participate.
Senior / Junior Section
1. Jacqueline Boutte will give a presentation on Wednesday, May
24th, 5th period in the College and Career Center on becoming a
Certified Nurse Assistant and Home Health Aide (CNA/HHA). Come to
D221 to sign up. Training program starts again in the fall of 2006
at the Berkeley Adult School.
2. Prom ticket Reminders: The last and absolute final day to
purchase prom tickets is Wednesday May 31st after school 3:15-4:00
PM. The tickets are $85. Make sure you have all book debts cleared
and necessary activity and guest contracts on file. When you come to
the window, you will need your ID.
3. Important Prom information: Prom is Saturday, June 3, 2006
at Hotel Nikko in San Francisco. 222 Mason St. The doors will open
ay 7:30 PM and there will be no admittance after 10:30 PM.. Each
guest must have a ticket and ID to enter. All guest contracts and
ID's must be on file by May 31st. No jeans or tennis shoes are
allowed. Sr. Prom is a formal event.
4. Seniors- Thursday, May 25th, Community College Day- Come
speak with representatives from many local community colleges, ask
questions about programs, admissions, orientation and class
registration. All presentations will be held in the College Career
Center. Sign up in advance to attend one or more presentations:
Diablo Valley College- period one
Laney College- period two
College of Alameda- period three
Vista College- period five
5. Friday, May 26- Last day to turn in your Senior Awards
Ceremony form in room D221. This ceremony recognizes you for the
honors and scholarships you have received during your high school
years. It is a wonderful way for you to get the acknowledgement you
deserve and celebrate with many
others from the class of '06.
6. There are four free prom dresses available in D148. Please
see Ivery McKnight-Johnson.
7. Juniors- the UC pamphlet, Introducing the University, has
arrived. Pick yours up in the College Center to get information on
each UC campus, including admissions, majors, financial aid and
important contact information.
8. Scholarships for Seniors: Are you a low income senior who did
not get enough money in your financial aid package to meet your full
need? You can apply for the Sallie Mae Unmet Need Scholarship and
win up to a $3,800 scholarship that is renewable each year.
Scholarships are open to students who are US citizens or permanent
residents, have a family adjusted gross income of $30,000 or less.

Events/ Performance
1. DANCE PROJECTS- featuring dances by the Intermediate
& Advanced Classes accompanied by student musicians. Thursday &
Friday May 25 & 26, 8 PM. $5 Students/$10 adults.
Schwimley Little Theatre on Allston Way, b'twn MLK & Mylvia. Come
and see some great performances!
2. SENIORS- there is a senior trip to Santa Cruz on June 6th.
Buy your tickets now! Tickets are $25 and will be sold each day at
lunch on the community theatre steps.
3. Opera Club! If you are interested in getting incredibly
cheap ($30) tickets to the SF Opera and seeing world class
performances, check this. Attend Madam Butterfly by Puccini on May
30 (Tuesday). Space is limited so purchase your ticket now! See Mr.
Ayers in C324.
SALES
1. Yearbooks are on sale in H102 everyday at lunch and after
school. They are $70 dollars. Make checks payable to BHS yearbooks.
2. COUPON BOOKS-Stop by Milvia Street exits and get your copy of "Guide to
the Good Life in Berkeley." For just $10, you get hundreds of
coupons that can save you hundreds of dollars at places like Extreme
Pizza,Crepes A Go Go, and Grub and Go, LaVal's, Games of Berkeley and
Iceland. And many many more. All proceeds go to support Berkeley
Schools!
