PRESENTATIONS
Wednesday, March 29
9:30 a.m.  Information on the Building Trades. This is a great
opportunity to find out more about how to get into a very high
paying, highly skilled field.

JOB OPPORTUNITY
Dental office near Berkeley High is looking for a senior to work
about 10 hours per week, Wednesday through Friday.  The job includes
filing, pulling charts, making copies and some phone work.
Familiarity with a computer, and a pleasant phone voice are
necessary. This job pays minimum wage and is an opportunity to gain
experience in office procedures and protocol. Call 510-486-1813 and
speak with Denise Alexander DDS or Kim Esclovon, Office Mgr. for an
application and interview.  Pay is the minimum wage.

SCHOLARSHIPS
Lillian Pierce Benbow Scholarship - Scholarship for African-American
seniors who are planning to attend a four year college, have a
minimum GPA of 3.0 and financial need.  $1,000 each.  Deadline:
April 28.  

Two new scholarships for African-American females.  The Olga Jane
Lewis Scholarship requires a 3.5 unweighted GPA.  The Ida Louise
Jackson Scholarship requires a 3.0 GPA. Each one is for $1,000.
Deadline:  April 21.  

Vietnam Veterans Group of San Quentin - Scholarships open to
graduating seniors who either have a parent or legal guardian
currently serving in the Armed Forces or was honorably discharged
from the Armed Forces.  Two scholarships available - $1,500 and $750.
Deadline:  May 5.  

Chinese American Citizens Alliance - Scholarship for Chinese American
senior. Essay and application required.  In addition, the winner must
attend the award dinner on June 10.  Nine scholarships of $800 each.
Deadline:  April 10.  

Claude Clark Memorial Scholarship Fund - This scholarship is for
African and African-American seniors graduating from Bay Area high
schools.  Three $3,000 scholarships will be awarded.  Deadline:
April 15.

East Bay Consortium of Educational Institutions Scholarship - Thirty
$2,500 scholarships will be awarded for students attending four year
college, nineteen $1,000 scholarships for students attending
community colleges and six $1,000 scholarships for students attending
community colleges. Must be a graduating senior who will be attending
a four year accredited college or university, or a community college
or a vocational/technical school.  Students must have a minimum GPA
of 2.8 if attending a four year school or a minimum 2.0 if attending
a community college or vocational school, active participation in
extracurricular activities and financial need.  Applications
available in D221. Deadline:  April 21.

FOR JUNIORS AND SENIORS
SAT/ACT TEST DATES -April 3 is the regular registration deadline for
the May 6 SAT.  May 5 is the regular registration deadline for the
June 10 ACT.  Students may register for the SAT at
www.collegeboard.com or for the ACT at www.act.org.  There are also
paper registration applications for both tests available in D221.  

ALL STUDENTS
Summer writing workshops - Classroom Matters is offering a Summer
Intensive Writing Program through workshops and seminars.  April
14-24, three hours per day, Monday-Thursday.   Students may choose
either the 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or the 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. session.
Tuition:  $450.  Some scholarships are available.  For more

Science Fiction and Fantasy Contest - sponsored by LA con IV, the
64th World Science Fiction Convention and Baltimore Worldcon 1998.
Students enter a short story with a science fiction or fantasy theme,
original artwork with a science fiction or fantasy theme or a science
essay.  Complete rules and application available in D221.  Deadline:
March 31.  

SUMMER PROGRAMS
*University of Chicago - Programs for incoming sophomores, juniors
and seniors, many for college credit.  More than 150 courses to
choose from including geology, biological sciences, ancient Egyptian
language, culture & history, field studies in urban sociology,
creative writing, etc.  Applications available in D221.  Financial
aid available.  Several sessions available. Deadline:  April 15.  For

Howard University Summer Pre-College Preparation Program.  June
26-July 22, 7:00 am to 10:00 pm daily.  Students live in Howard
dormitories.  Cost:  $3,200.  Program includes study in math,
science, communications, computer science and study skills.  For more
