STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN

Administration

1.	The ROOTER BUS to Sacramento  has been cancelled.  We did not get 
enough sign-ups for
the girl’s basketball game in Sacramento.

2.	BSEP Meeting Monday, March 20th 4:30 p.m. – late evening.  Agenda 
are as follows:
Establish a quorum; introductions; approval of agenda and changes; 
review
and approval of minutes of previous meetings; public comment; order
dinner; survey update/evaluation; Finish first review of all proposals;
Discussion and voting; Procedure; Straw poll; future meeting dates 
review.

3.	If you received a letter in the mail saying that you need to take one
or both parts of the California State Exit Exam, you must report to the
Jacket Gym at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 21, for the English Language 
Arts
Exam; and on Wednesday, March 22, for the Math Exam.  Please make sure 
to
bring a book in case you finish early.  If you are not certain whether 
you
need to take one or both parts of the exam, please talk to Rory Bled, 
Vice
Principal.

4.	Attention CSF Participants!  The tutoring requirement for the spring
2006 semester only has been changed from 3 to 4 hours.

5.	The dates for the Honors Algebra 2 and Honors Math Analysis tests are
April 3rd and April 5th from 3:30 – 4:15 in room H306.  Please contact 
Mr.
Weitz via email at <mweitz at berkeley.k12.ca.us> to sign up for the test. 
  Ask your current math
teacher for more information.

6.	Are you planning on taking an Advanced Placement (AP) courses next 
year?
If so, you must come to a lunchtime informational meeting Friday to hear
important course information and pick up an informational packet.
AP Biology will be in G212, AP Chemistry will be in G215, AP Physics 
will
be in G217, and AP Environmental science will be in G209.

7.	DO you like science?  Do you want a paid summer internship at a 
biotech
company like Bayer or Chiron?  Do you like working with hi-tech
equipment?  If you’re a sophomore, apply for the Biotech Academy.  Pick 
up
an application from Mr. Fong in G305 or Dr. Stone in G304.  Applications
are still available and due back early next week.

8.	Student Government applications are now available in Ms.
McKnight-Johnson’s office D148 in the main office, and in the SLC.  Pick
up one today!

9.	The MORP (Prom backwards) is re-scheduled for March 31st from 6:30-10
p.m. in the BHS Food Court.  If you already have purchased tickets, you 
will
be added to the guest list.  All others can still purchase tickets on
Monday at the Allston Way box office at lunch and after school.   
Tickets
are $5 per person. Special Guest Artist will be performing!  See you 
there!

10.	JOBS: Recreation Activity Leader- Call the City of Berkeley Parks 
and
Recreation at 981-5150.  $13.76 per hour to start.  Deadline to apply:
April 21st.  Other aquatic positions are available as well.

11.	VOLUNTEER- Camp Galileo has opportunities for counselors in training
and summer interns at a camp for elementary school age students.  You 
can
help campers with art, science and outdoor activities or develop kids
enjoyment of science and engineering.  For more information go to

Clubs
1.	Congratulations to the BHS Boys tennis team for their 6-1 league 
victory
over Encinal.

2.	Seniors! Seniors!  Are you interested in Asia Graduation?  If so,
please come to see to the informational meeting on Monday, March 20th in
  C333.  Anyone can come!

3.	Health Fact of the Week:  Have you had your breakfast this morning?
Research suggests that skipping breakfast can negatively affect your
intellectual performance.  Brought to you by the BHS Youth Advisory 
Board.

Sports

1.	Girls Basketball – BHS vs. Cal Poly on Saturday, March 18th 6:00 pm 
at
the Arco Arena in Sacramento.  Please support the Lady Jackets!   In
addition to being broadcast on television, the girls basketball game 
will
also be available on webcast at 6:00 at <www.kubrowco.com>.  It’s a pay 
per listen, live on Saturday.
All games can be heard for $5.  Marco Alfandary will be on the air as 
the BHS
student announcer.

2.	Please come support the Men’s and Women’s crew teams at their first
home race.  The Men’s Varsity 8 and Freshman 4 and women’s Varsity 8 and
Freshman 8 are all undefeated.  This week’s race is against 2005 
National
champion teams so will be a challenging event.  The teams are racing 
from
about 8 am to 11 am Sunday, March 19th at the Jack London Aquatic 
center-
115 Embarcadero in Oakland.  More information can be found

Senior / Junior Section
1.	College Visits:

2.	JOSTEN”S representatives will be on site TODAY at lunch in the 
courtyard.  Order days are here!

3.	For seniors- Claude Clark Memorial scholarship Fund- This scholarship
is for African and African American seniors graduating from Bay Area 
High
Schools.  Three $3,000 scholarships will be awarded. Deadline: April 15.

4.	JUNIORS- The next day to sign up for an appointment with either Ms.
Abrams or Mr. Stringfellow is FRIDAY, MARCH 24 at 8:00 am in D221.You 
may
not sign up if you already had an appointment with either Ms. Abrams or
Mr. Stringfellow or if you signed up for an appointment and missed it.
The date was changed due to the exit exam on March 21st.

5.	East Bay Consortium of Educational Institutions Scholarship – Thirty
$2,500 scholarships will be awarded for students attending four year
college, nineteen $1,000 scholarships for students attending community
colleges.  Must be a graduating senior who will be attending a four year
accredited college or university, or a community college or a
vocational/technical school.  Students must have a minimum 2.0 if
attending a community college or vocational school, active participation
in extracurricular activities and financial need.  Applications 
available
in D221.  Deadline: April 21.

6.	Tzu Chi foundation Scholarship- Seniors are selected based on 
financial
need, academic achievement and community involvement.  Minimum 
unweighted
GPA of 3.0 $1,000 scholarship.  Deadline: March 31st.

7.	Seniors!  Did you miss your Senior Portrait appointment!  Did you
forget to schedule one?  Well, you now have one more opportunity to be
featured on the Senior Formal Memory poster.  Appointments are available
on March 15th and 16th from 2:30 – 7:00 pm here at BHS.  Contact

Events/ Performance

1.	TONIGHT- Berkeley High School Jazz Ensemble and Combos Spring Jazz
concert is March 17th.  Come hear what the musicians are up to.  BHS
students, teachers and staff are free!!  Others $10 please.  We will 
have
lots of delicious food for sale before the concert and at intermission 
so
bring your appetites.  This is all happening at the Little Theater at 
BHS.
  Tickets are available at the door.  Box office opens at 7:00 pm.  For
further information on the performance, please contact Lori Ferguson at
527-8245.

2.	On Monday, March 20th during lunch, we will be having a brief service
and tree planting honoring Jennifer Dieges, a dedicated and passionate
teacher who taught here.  She passed away on March 19th, 2005.
Please join us in the courtyard in front of G and H building at the
beginning of lunch.

3.	In January of 2006, six CAS students, one CAS alumna, and teacher 
Rick
Ayers traveled to Venezuela to attend the sixth World Social Forum.  We
met activists from all over the world and we experienced the dramatic
transformations of the Bavarian revolution led by President Hugo Chavez.
Please attend our REPORT BACK gathering at BHS.  You will see 
photographs,
videos, personal reminiscences by all the participants.
	
4.	Attention Juniors!  Junior Prom ticket sales will resume Tuesday, 
March
21st at lunch in the Allston Way Box office.  Ticket sales are Tuesday,
Wednesday, and Thursday of every week at lunch.  Tickets will start at
$60.00 each and will go up $5 each week with a maximum ticket price of
$75.00 per ticket.  Remember! Prom is April 29th.

5.	Come learn about Advanced Theatre Projects 2006-2007.  Next year 
we’ll
be doing 2 Fall Plays and many other projects.  Auditions are next week-
find out how to prepare this Friday at lunch in the drama room.

SALES

1.	BART tickets for March are here.  Please pick up your tickets in room
D224 at lunchtime only.

2.	BART ticket orders will be taken March 30, and 31st at lunchtime in
room D224.  Price per ticket is $16.00

3.	Yearbooks are on sale in H102 everyday at lunch and after school.  
They
are $70 dollars.  Make checks payable to BHS yearbooks.
