March 16th Deadline for COSMOS

California State Summer School for Mathematics & Science (COSMOS) for
summer 2006. COSMOS serves California's diverse student body as well
as a small percentage of students from out-of-state. Since the
program began in summer 2,000 at two campuses, 2,475 students from 46
California counties have attended; approximately half the
participants are female and half are male. We are dedicated to
maintaining these students' interest in math, science or engineering
and in creating a community of scholars.

This summer, the four UC COSMOS sites at Davis, Irvine, San Diego and
Santa Cruz will enroll 570 high achieving high school students who
excel in mathematics and science at the unique four-week residential
program. Applications are accepted until the March 16th deadline at
5 PM. Detailed information, course cluster descriptions and
instructions are available at www.ucop.edu/cosmos which links to the
four campus-specific COSMOS programs. The online application and
need-based financial aid forms are now posted at the website.
Students may apply to only one campus, and are asked to write short
essays about three possible "course cluster" preferences. Two
teacher recommendations are required.

Financial Aid for the full in-state $2,000 tuition, covering room,
board and the academic program is available to academically qualified
students with documented financial need who reside in California.
Each year, close to one third of COSMOS California resident
participants receive a full scholarship. There is a $20
non-refundable application fee. Out-of-state participants pay $6,200
to attend, as required by the legislation.

Please call or email if I may provide additional information, or
contact the COSMOS site leadership at
