Administration
1. The BHS BSEP committee funds all types of
student enrichment programs with money provided
by the BSEP Tax Measure of 1994. BSEP program
proposal application forms are now available for
the fall of 2006. You can pick them up from
Belinda McDaniel in the Admin office or call her
at 644-4800. The forms can also be sent
electronically.
2. Auditions for the Berkeley High School
Jazz Lab Band II (intermediate level) for fall
2006 will be held in A building, Room 201
Thursday, February 23rd at 3:15 (trombone).

3. Attention 3rd period Freshman seminar
teachers: Please escort your students to the
Community Theater for the Freshman Class Town
Hall Meeting. The Meeting will begin promptly at
11:00 AM. Additionally, all other Freshman
should be excused from their 3rd period classes
at 10:55 .
4. The BHS Site Council will meet Tuesday,
February 28th, 4:30 -6:00 in the conference room
or Library. On the agenda are an update on
advisories, Safety and Attendance Data, an
Academic Choice update, and student orientation,
registration and scheduling.
5. The Writer's Café is open today at lunch
in room A101. Writing coaches are available to
help you with all phases of writing. Nail that
assignment this time! Snacks available. See
your teacher about extra credit.
Clubs
1. There will be no APIC this week, but come
to the Asian Graduation food sale on the senior
steps today. The item on the menu is Teriyaki
Chicken.
2. Attention all club reps: Club field
trips and off campus events must be submitted for
approval to Ms. Bennett on the appropriate Field
trip request form and signed by your club's
teacher sponsor. For questions, see Ms. Bennett.
3. Clubs! If you reserved a page for the
yearbook you must bring it in with your money by
this Friday, February 24th, $25.00 for a
quarter-page, $50.00 for a half-page and $100 for
a full page.
4. Reach! Presents the 1st annual Asian
American youth conference entitled, "Claiming Our
Future," February 25, 2006 at UC Berkeley
(Dwinelle Hall) from 9:30-4:00 PM. Free
workshops and performances and food! Please
register at lists.berkeley.edu
5. Violence is a serious issue, and
unfortunately a familiar one in the community.
In the United States, minority males bear most of
the burden of homicide victimization. In 2001,
among males aged 15 to 19 years, 3.9% victims of
100 were whites, 6.9% were Asian/ Pacific
Islanders, 15.8% were native Americans, 23.8%
were Hispanics and 59.9% were blacks. Save these
lives. Stop the violence. Brought to you by the
BHS Youth Advisory Board.
Sports
1. Congratulations to the following
wrestlers who placed in the Bay Shore Athletic
League Wrestling Championships; 2nd place
winners Paul Navo and Rashad Berkley and 3rd
place winners Alex Bui, Mirko Jurcan, Koji
Jagust, and James Clomen. They will be competing
in the NCS Championship
Wrestling Tournament this Friday. Krista
Degenkolb will complete in the girls NCS
Championships in Fremont this Saturday. Good
luck Wrestlers!!
Senior / Junior Section
1. Attention all seniors, we are having a
slide-show of 9th -12th grade during our senior
ball. So get your pictures in! Bring your
pictures to room D148 during lunch. There is a
limit of 3 pictures per person. Put your
pictures in an envelope with your name printed
legibly on both the envelopes and pictures!
2. Scholarships: Oakland Associations of
Insurance Agents- $5,000 scholarship, renewable
for three additional years, to graduating senior
with a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0 who has
participated in community service and has
financial need. Applications available in D221.
Deadline: March 31.
3. Thurgood Marshall Scholarships- 2,000
merit scholarships awarded through 47 different
Historically Black Colleges and Universities,
each with their own criteria and their own
application. High School GPA minimum of 3.0 and
a minimum combined critical reading/math score of
1100 with financial need. For more information
and a list of schools, go to

4. Seniors! It's time to purchase your
senior pages. A single page is $200 and a double
page is $400. Come by the yearbook room H102
after-school! The deadline to purchase is
February 24th. Limited amount of pages, so hurry!
5. For seniors- Want to be a chef? Would
you like to work in a hotel management? The
Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Program
of City College of San Francisco is now accepting
applications for Fall 2006. For more

Application deadline: April 10.
6. For Juniors- KRON 4 Students Rising Above
Scholarship. This is a scholarship for students
who will graduate from high school and then
attend college in 2007. Students must be from
low income families who are rising above great
difficulties and succeeding in school and in
life. Applications are available in D221.
Applications must be received by KRON by Tuesday,
April 4.
7. California State Summer School for
Mathematics and Science (COSMOS) is now accepting
applications. COSMOS is now enrolling students
at four sites- UC Davis, Irvine, San Diego and
Santa Cruz. Tuition, room and board is $2,000,
but FULL SCHOLARSHIPS are available for qualified
students.
The COSMOS course clusters address topics not
traditionally taught in high schools such as
astronomy, aerospace engineering, biomedical
sciences, computer science, wetlands ecology,
ocean science, robotics, game theory, and more.
The program runs from July 9 -August 5. Apply at

Deadline is March 16 at 5:00 PM.
8. Anita Baskerville Harris Scholarship
Award: Graduating African-American female with a
minimum GPA of 3.0 with financial need who is
planning to attend a four year college or
university. Scholarships range from $500 to
$2,000. Deadline: April 1.
Events/ Performance
1. ITP's Performances: February 24th and
25th at Hillside Club on Cedar between Spruce and
Euclid. Shows at 8:00 PM, but come early since
they are usually sold out! Tickets are $5
students and $10 general.
2. Come hear the Berkeley High Jazz ensemble
and Combos at Yoshi's on Monday, March 6. In
addition to their standard repertoire, they will
be performing an original composition by and with
BHS Alum and Jazz great, Peter Apfelbaum. Each
show will feature a combo and the big band.
Tickets are $15. please call Yoshi's at 238-9200.

1. BART Ticket orders will be taken on 2/27/
and 2/28 at lunchtime in room D224. Ticket
prices are $16.00 each. Cash only.
2. Yearbooks are on sale in H102 everyday at
lunch and after school. They are $70 dollars.
