Over 750 sophomores will be taking the California State Exit Exam
(CASEE) on Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 7 and 8. The students will
take a Math test on one day and an English test on the second. They
must pass this test in order to receive a California high school
diploma. The tests are not timed. Students can stay as long as they
want.
Students are being asked to show up by 7:30 a.m. It is a long day
for students. We figure we will need close to 30 adults at all times
in order to have the test start promptly and run smoothly. Unlike
the STAR test which is given later in the spring, teachers can not
proctor because none of them teach only 10th graders. This is why we
are asking our community for support.
We are looking for 30 (THIRTY!), a huge number, of volunteers each
morning from 7:15 a.m. to 8:30, from 8:30 to noon and from noon to 3
pm. (shifts are not rigid--we are flexible if you need us to be). If
you can come for more than one shift, I have parking passes to
distribute. Please consider volunteering. The stakes are high for
these tests and it is important that we support our students as best
we can. If you are a sophomore parent, it is a wonderful opportunity
to take in ALL of your child's classmates. For the rest of us, it is
nice to help a group of good children who are taking a serious step
towards graduation and adult life.
Thank you,
Janet Huseby, Volunteer Coordinator
