2. The Mardi Grass boat cruise dock location has been
changed. The vessel, Monte Carlo will board at the Jack London
Square Ferry Boar Dock near the Tony Romas Bar/ BBQ Restaurant on
Clay Street. Parking is available at the parking garage above
Yoshi's for a fee. Students should arrive no later than 7:30 PM on
Saturday, Jan 28. Registration will begin at 7 PM and the vessel
will depart promptly at 8 PM. The boat will return at 11 PM to the
Jack London Square Dock.
3. Attention all CSF participants! Your 4 hours of community
service and $5 dues are due at the end of the semester, January 27,
2006. See Mrs. Harris in the College Career Center.
4. Special Ancient History course for high school students at UC
Berkeley Extension, conveniently scheduled from 3:45 to 6:45 PM in
downtown Berkeley beginning February 1. Discover the history of
Western civilization from ancient Greece to the late Roman empire.
Earn three semester units in history toward either high school
graduation or college credit, depending on school approval.
Clubs
1. The next trip to the Berkeley Snowboard Club is scheduled for
Saturday, February 4th to Sugarbowl. There is a mandatory club
meeting this Tuesday in room C213 at lunchtime. Everyone who is
planning on attending the trip must fill out their forms and hand
them in along with their checks by
today.
Sports
1. Badminton tryouts: 6 AM, Feb 6, 2006. You must have
your athletic packets completed! Information meeting Tuesday, Jan.
24th at lunch, room D-218
2. The Boys golf meeting has been changed from Thursday 2/2 at
3:30 to Friday 2/3 at 3:30 in the athletic office. Meet the coach,
find out about the team, and turn in completed athletic packets.
3. Berkeley's Wrestling Team will be taking on Athenian High
School this Thursday at 6:30 in the old gym Social Hall. This will
be your last chance to watch your wrestlers slam the competition at
home this season.
4. Boys Volleyball tryouts begin on Monday, February 6 in the
Old gym at 3:45 PM. A complete athletic packet must be turned in on
that day. Contact Coach Chris Paik at velocitipartners.com if you
have questions.
Senior / Junior Section
1. FAFSA Workshops: Bring your financial information and your
questions. Trained assistants from UC Berkeley will be available to
help you fill out the financial aid forms. All workshops are in the
Berkeley High School library computer lab:

2. For all students- Etude Club of Berkeley offers over $1500 in
prizes in the Young Artist Award Competition. Awards in piano, voice
and orchestral instruments. For application and audition
requirements, call Dr. Susan Waller at 925-829-4922. Deadline: March
15.
3. Lewis H. Latimer Scholarship- Open to African-American
seniors with a minimum GPA of 2.5 who is planning to enroll in a four
year college, community college or business school. Essay and letter
of recommendation is required. Applications available in D221.
Award: Minimum of $500.
Deadline: March 3.
Events/ Performance
1. In celebration of Dr. King's birthday and Black
History month, CAS and the Parent Resource Center will present: Team
I' Themba, a south African Dance & Dram Troupe at in the Florence
Schwinley Little Theatre. Through dance and drama the group will
tell the story of how South Africa's people overcome in their
struggle for freedom from apartheid to become a nation preparing for
peace with itself. February 3 at 6:30 PM. Little Theatre. Admission:
Student $6.00, general $12.00. Tickets on sale 5 PM on the night of
the performance at BHS ticket booth.
SALES
1. Yearbooks are on sale in H102 everyday at lunch and after school. They
are $70 dollars. Make checks payable to BHS yearbooks.
