Administration
1. Wednesday is late start. Students begin school at 10:00 A.M.
2. Health Fact of the Week: Have you ever heard someone say: “I drive
better when I’m high?” Marijuana does not make you a better driver.
It distorts perception and affects your reaction times and driving
abilities, which puts you at higher risk for crashes and injury. Don’t
use marijuana and drive.
Clubs
1. Ping Pong Club today at lunch on the upper floor of the old gym.
Anyone interested is encouraged to attend.
2. The next trip to the Berkeley Snowboard Club is scheduled for
Saturday, February 4th to Sugarbowl. There is a mandatory club meeting
this Tuesday in C213 at lunchtime. Everyone who is planning on
attending the trip must fill out their forms and hand them in along
with their checks by next Tuesday, January 17th.
3. BHS students”Speak on It” meets Wednesdays at lunchtime in
Conference Room B. All are welcome. Lunch served. See ya there!
4. Wanna be safe? Come join the Condom Club. Meet on Wednesdays at
lunch in G103.
5. All students attending the Lenaea Festival in Sacramento must come
to mandatory meeting in the Drama Room at lunch today.

7. The Club Commissioners meeting will be on Thursday, January 12th at
lunch in Conference Room A. All club representatives must attend.
8. Attention all Jews! Come to the JSU, today at lunch in A105.
Snacks will be provided as we plan for this year events.
9. Clubs! Do you want to be in the yearbook? Come to H102 during 7th
to reserve your pages by January 20th. $25 for a quarter page. $50
for a half page and $100 for a full page. All pages need to be in by
February 24th.
Sports
1. All students interested in playing baseball for Berkeley High this
year should come to a meeting during lunchtime on Thursday 1/12 in
C128.
2. Congratulations to Paul Navo for placing 3rd at the Oakland Tech
Varsity Tournament this past Saturday. Good job, Paul.
3. Berkeley Wrestling hosts John Swett High School this Thursday at
7:00 P.M.in the Old Gym Social Hall. Come out and support your
wrestlers and cheer them on to victory.
Senior / Junior Section
1. Lewis H. Latimer Scholarship- Open to African-American seniors with
a minimum GPA of 2.5 who is planning to enroll in a four year college,
community college or business school. Essay and letter of
recommendation is required. Applications available in D221. Award:
Minimum of $500. Deadline: March 3.
2. Two helpful lunchtime workshops led by BHS alum and UC Berkeley
Incentive Awards winner, Laila Nossier, in conference room A. Tuesday,
January 10- study skills and organizational skills for the college
application process. Thursday, January 12- ways to reduce stress in
college application process. Don’t miss these useful sessions!
3. If you applied to any colleges which require your first semester
grades, Mid-Year report Forms are due to Ms. Mellion in D173 no later
than
January 17. Turn in the Mid-Year Report Form along with a Transcript
Request Form with “Mid Year Report” written across the top and a
stamped envelope addressed to the college with a return address of
Berkeley High School 1980 Allston Way, Berkeley, CA 94704. Remember
the postage cost has increased to 39 cents.
4. Missed the CAL deadline? The following Cal State campuses are still
accepting applications: Cal Maritime, Bakersfield, Channel Islands,
Domiguez Hills, East Bay (formerly named Hayward), Fresno, Fullerton,
Los Angeles, Monterey Bay, Sacramento, San Bernadino, San Marcos,
Stanislaus, Humboldt, San Francisco, and San Jose. DEADLINE to apply
to San Francisco is January 13th.
5. Junior and Senior Artists- National Portfolio Day, Saturday, January
21 at Art Academy University, 79 New Montgomery St. San Francisco,
12:00 noon- 4:00 pm. This is your chance to have try our portfolio
reviewed by an expert. Representatives of over 30 leading colleges of
art and design will be present. For more information go to www,

Events/ Performance
1. Did you love RIZE and Mad Hot Ballroom?? Come out and see the real
deal! Berkeley High School’s Dance Production 2006 performs this
weekend and next: Friday and Saturdays, January 13,and 14 @8 pm in the
Little Theater. Students $5/ General $10. Hip hop, Jazz, Modern and
Ballet- these dancers can bust a move like nobody’s business.
SALES
1. Winter Ball tickets are on sale at lunch on Monday, Wednesday, and
Fridays at the Allston Way box office. Tickets are $65.00. We will no
longer accept any checks! Students must have ID and a student’s
activities contract on file.
2. Yearbooks are on sale in H102 everyday at lunch and after school.
They are $70 dollars. Make checks payable to BHS yearbooks.
