SAT WORD OF THE DAY:  AMBIGUOUS - unclear.  Because laws may be
unclear, a Court of Appeals is sometimes required to assist with a
definite interpretation.

JOB OPPORTUNITY
State Farm insurance on Solano Avenue is looking for a student to
work approximately 8 hours per week.  Schedule is flexible - after
school and Saturday hours are available.  They are looking for a
minimum one year commitment.  Salary: $10-13 depending on experience.

FOR SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS
Tuesday, December 13 at lunchtime - presentation on United World
Colleges.  This is a great opportunity for students who are
interested in living and studying abroad during high school,
regardless of ability to pay.  There are ten United World Colleges in
the UK, Singapore, Canada, Swaziland, the USA, Italy, Venezuela, Hong
Kong, Norway and India. Each College has its own distinctive
character but all share a common mission.  Students from all over the
world gather to study and participate in community service.  For more

FOR SENIORS
*FINANCIAL AID - The new FAFSA on the Web Worksheet is now available
in the College/Career Center.  Come by to pick up a copy so that you
can be ready to file the FAFSA online when it becomes available on
January 1.  

MISSED THE CAL STATE DEADLINE?
Many Cal State campuses are still accepting applications.  For a
complete list come by D221 or go to www.csumentor.edu and click on
"Still Accepting Applications?"

SAT/ACT scores - remember that you are required to send official
scores to each campus where you are applying.  You can do this by
going to www.collegeboard.com for SAT scores and www.act.org for ACT
scores.  Simply entering your scores on your application is not
sufficient.  You MUST send official scores.  To send SAT scores to
all CSU campuses and pay only one $9 fee, use the code 3594
(csumentor).  Scores must be sent separately to each UC campus. The
scores do not have to be received by the campuses by November 30th,
but send them now as it takes 4-6 weeks for each campus to receive
them.

ESSAY READERS 
Essay readers are now available every day at lunchtime if you need to
get feedback or help on a college essay.

SCHOLARSHIPS
*New lists of scholarships are now available in D221.  Stop by to
pick up a copy.

Italian Catholic Federation Scholarship - seniors who are Catholic
and of Italian descent and who have a minimum GPA of at least 3.2 are
eligible. Applications available in D221.  $400 scholarship.
Deadline: March 15, 2006.  

UTSA Tennis & Education Foundation - numerous scholarships for
students who play tennis and have financial need, ranging in value
from $500 to $15,000 each.  Applications available in D221. Deadline:
February 3, 2006.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Scholarship.  Open to all seniors who
are planning to attend a two or four year college or university.
Minimum scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded by each local chapter.
Applications available in D221.  Deadline:  January 17.  

Sam Walton Community Scholarship.  Must be a graduating senior. Log
on to www.walmartfoundation.org for more information.  Apply online
only at www.scholarshipadministrators.net.  Use the access code SWCS
to complete the application.  $1,000 scholarship.  Deadline: January
20.  

Metro PCS Community Scholars Program.  Open to seniors attending
public high school in one of the Bay Area counties who plan to enroll
full-time in a two or four year college or university and have a
minimum GPA of 3.0 unweighted and who have volunteered in activities
that give back to the student's community.  Applications available in
D221 or at www.metropcs.com/scholarship.  Deadline:  December 19.
$1,000 scholarship.  

Miss Teen Chinatown Scholarship.  Applicants must submit a recent
photo, official transcript and application.  Applications are
available in D221.  For more information, go to
www.sfclcfoundation.org or call 650-348-2333.  Deadline:  December
31.  

Don and Roy Splawn Charitable Foundation West.  Award:  up to $1,000
based on financial need, academic qualifications, dedication to
school, community and family, and extraordinary circumstances.  Based
primarily on overcoming personal challenges.  Apply online only at
www.fsrequests.com/splawn.  Deadline:  January 20, 5:00 p.m. EST.   

FOR JUNIORS AND SENIORS
UC Irvine Stay-Over Program. Spend the night in a residence hall,
take a campus tour, and visit classes. Dates available from January
17-March 9, Monday through Thursday only.   Applications available in
D221.   They recommend applying early since this program fills up

SAT/ACT TEST DATES - December 22 is the regular registration deadline
for the January 28 SAT.  January 6 is the regular registration
deadline for the February 11 ACT.
Seniors, please remember that you must list all of your colleges on
the registration form to receive your scores. 

BLACK COLLEGE TOURS
Students interested in traveling on the Spring 2006 Black College
Tour to visit HBCU Campuses such as Howard University, Hampton
University, North Carolina Central, North Carolina A&T, and several
others, College Bound Tours, is accepting deposits.  The tour dates
are April 9-16th, 2006, which is Spring Break for BHS.  Tour cost is

Educational Student Tours presents Black College Tours.  Tours are
six days long, beginning either April 9 or June 25, 2006.  Tour
brochures available in the College/Career Center.  More information

SUMMER PROGRAMS
Oxbridge Academic Programs in Europe.  Information session on Monday,
December 5, 7:00-9:00 p.m., Palace Hotel, Sea Cliff Room, 2 New

SUMMER OPPORTUNITY - Stanford University Center for Clinical
Immunology Summer Intern Program.  If you are interested in biology,
apply for this 8 week program consisting of lab research, lectures by
selected faculty and graduates and some clinical exposure.  Interns
will be paid $1,500.  No housing is provided.  Applications are
