Congratulations to Berkeley High School Jazz Ensemble members Billy
Buss (lead trumpet) and Julian Pollack (piano) on their selection as
National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA) finalists!

Billy and Julian are among only 160 total students chosen out of over
6,500 who applied to the Arts Recognition and Talent Search (ARTS)
Program and are 2 of only 6 finalists in jazz. As NFAA ARTS
finalists, they will travel to Miami and New York City to participate
in ARTS week 2006. They were also named "Clifford Brown/Stan Getz
Fellows" and will perform in New York at the International
Association of Jazz Education (IAJE) convention.

Come hear them play in person Friday night, December 2nd, along with
the award-winning Berkeley High School Jazz Ensemble. The concert,
held in the Florence
Schwimley Little Theater, starts at 7:30 pm. Both small combos will
also perform sets. Tickets, available only at the door, are $10
general admission and are FREE for Berkeley High School students,
faculty and staff. The Jazz Ensemble is donating all proceeds from
this concert to benefit music programs for children affected by
Hurricane Katrina.
