STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN

Administration

1.	You can take pictures on Tuesday, November 15th in the counseling 
office if you need an ID.

2.	Student Activities would like acknowledge the hard work and effort 
put into the Day of the Dead display by the LaRaza Club.  This has 
risen cultural awareness to both students and staff.

3.	Please continue bringing canned food to your 2nd period class until 
December 10th!  This is for the Holiday Meal to help the homeless. We 
appreciate your help!

4.	Cody's Books School Benefit Daze: Friday- Monday, November 11-14, 
2005. 25% of the proceeds of your purchases at Cody's during this four 
day event will be contributed to Berkeley High.  Shop two Berkeley 
locations at 2454 Telegraph Ave and 1730 Fourth Street; 1 San Francisco 
location-2 Stockton Street at Market. Just save your receipts and mail 
them to Julie Wong, 1311 Santa Fe Ave, Berkeley, CA 94702   or call 
528-8191.

Clubs

1.	Are you an artist or writer?  Like to draw or take pictures? Then 
enter the National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month 
Poster-Essay Contest.  It's easy:  Create an original 8.5 x 11 poster 
and write a 200 word or less essay on drunk and drugged driving 
prevention.  Turn in your entries to H105, the Health Center by 
Wednesday, December 7 for your chance to win some cool prizes.

2.	Health Fact of the Week:  Drivers who use cell phones while driving 
are four times more likely to crash than those not on a cell phone.  Be 
safe while driving by avoiding the use of cell phones.  This health 
fact was brought to you by the Berkeley High School Health Center Youth 
Advisor.

Sports

1.	  Berkeley High Girls Volleyball  beat the Encinal Jets in four 
games  on Saturday to win an Alameda Contra Costa Athletic League 
playoff and earn the league's automatic berth in the North Coast 
Section playoffs.   The Jackets will make their sixth consecutive NCS 
post-season appearance on Tuesday, Nov. 15,  when they  play James 
Logan High School (at James Logan) in the first round.   
Congratulations to Coach Franklin Brightwater and his team.  Go 
Jackets!

Senior / Junior Section

1.	Don and Roy Splawn Charitable Foundation West.  Award: up to $1,000 
based on financial need, academic qualifications, dedication to school, 
community and family, and extraordinary circumstances.  Based primarily 
on overcoming personal challenges.  Apply online at  
<www.fsrequests.com/splawn>.   Deadline is January 20th at 5:00 pm EST.

2.	Seniors who have taken senior formals with ABC Harrell, please go 
online and select your portrait packages ASAP.

3.	Did you know that you can apply to up to 31 colleges that are on the 
Common Black College Application for only a $35 fee?  Go to 
<www.eduinconline.com>  for more information or stop by the 
College/Career Center.

4.	Award Opportunit: The Soroptimist Club offers award to a young woman 
ages 14-17 that make the community and world a better place through
volunteer efforts. Volunteer actions that benefit women and girls are 
particularly valued.  Applications are available in D221.  Deadline: 
December 1.

5.	College visits:

10:35  Olin College of Engineering (MA)  Olin offers free tuition to 
all students accepted to the program.  Check it out!

Wednesday, November 16

Events/ Performance
1.	Young people, ages 15-24 make up half of all new HIV infections 
worldwide.  More than 6000 become infected everyday. The HIV Prevention 
Program will be sponsoring a school-wide event on Thursday, December 
1st for World AIDS Day.  Stop by the Community Theater 8am to 4pm.  
There will be displays, hands-on learning activities, a tour of AIDS 
memorial quilt panels, as well as panels made to BHS students.  Come 
by, STOP AIDS, and keep the promise.


SALES

1.	Bart tickets for November are in.  Please pick up your tickets in 
room D224.
