Administration
1. Thank you to all the students and staff who contributed positively
to Spirit Week. Ms. McKnight-Johnson and all the Leadership truly
appreciate your support and spirit.
2. Wanted: Quitters! If you want to quit tobacco before it becomes a
life-long addiction leading to hideous diseases followed by a long and
painful early death, then join the Kick It class. The class starts
Tuesday, Nov. 1 during 1st period in the Admin Building, Room B. 6
weeks/ 6 sessions- rotating class periods. Includes free hypnosis.
Get a pass from class and just show up. Snacks provided. Questions?

3. You are invited to attend the Coordinated School Project Coalition
meeting Thursday, October 27, 2005; 5-6 pm in BHS Admin Conference Room
B. Light refreshments and drinks served. The Coalition acts as a
liaison between the BHS and the Health Center focusing on identifying
gaps in services for students and creating a working plan to help
eliminate those gaps. If you have questions or concerns contact
Shannon Singleton-Banks at 253-6448.
4. Cody’s Books School Benefit Daze: Friday- Monday, November 11-14,
2005. 25% of the proceeds of your purchases at Cody’s during this four
day
event will be contributed to Berkeley High. Shop (2 Berkeley
locations) at 2454 Telegraph Ave, and 1730 Fourth Street; 1 San
Francisco location-2 Stockton Street at Market. Just save your receipts
and mail them to Julie Wong, 1311 Santa Fe Ave, Berkeley, CA 94702 or
call 528-8191.
5. The City of Berkeley Youth Works program is currently giving out
applications for after-school jobs at 1947 Center St. 8-5 pm. Thanks.
Clubs
1. Close-Up, March of 2006: A one week trip to Washington D.C., for a
“close-up” first hand study of government. All interested students
should
attend a meeting on Wednesday at lunchtime. Applications will be
distributed at this meeting onWednesday at lunchtime G201 with Mr.
Collier, Mr. Teel, Mr. Angell.
2. Attention all club representatives: Many clubs are not registered
for the 2005-2006 school year. In order to place an announcement in
the bulletin, conduct fundraisers, or officially have meetings, your
club must be registered! Submit your club registration forms to D148
ASAP. Also, the mandatory club commissioner’s meeting will be held on
Nov. 10th at lunch in Conference Room B.
3. Come to the APIC meeting in G302 at lunch this Thursday!
4. Earphone English meets today at lunch in C116. Just stop by and
check in if you can’t stay --and don’t forget to get your extra credit
sheet!
5. Hey Best Buddies! Please meet this week in H106 for a very special
Halloween activity and a sweet treat!
6. The Outdoors Club will be meeting on Wednesday in G209. New members
are welcome. Come plan our next event!
Sports
1. Winter Sports ( Basketball, Soccer, Wrestling)tryouts begin Monday,
November 7. In order to tryout, you must have a complete athletic
packet.
Packets are available in the front office or in the athletic office.
If you have not had a physical in the last year, schedule one
immediately either with your own doctor or the health center.
2. BHS Crew: looking for a spring sport? The BHS crew team needs
additional novice rowers, for men’s and women’s crew, to fill out the
team
roster. Rowers are conditioning over the winter in preparation for the
spring race season. No previous rowing experience required! Contact
Coach Chris Dadd at 925-676-8025.
3. All girls interested in playing soccer for Berkeley High, tryouts
begin Monday, Nov.7th.
4. All boys interested in playing soccer for Berkeley High should come
to an informational meeting on the BHS turf bleachers on Thursday at
lunch.
In case of rain, the meeting will be moved to the Donahue Gym lobby.
Tryouts begin Monday, November 7th.
5. All boys and girls interested in wrestling for Berkeley High this
winter must come to a meeting on Tuesday October 25, at lunch in the
athletic office. The season begins Nov.7 and a complete athletic packet
must be turned in on that day to coach Gabriel Tcruz.
Senior / Junior Section
1. Seniors: Spots are still available for poll workers for the special
election on November 8th. Applications are available in D148. Must be
at least 16 years of age and a senior.

Events/ Performance
1. The Berkeley High website is having a photo contest! Have your
featured on the homepage, which receives 20 thousand visitors a month!
Submissions will be accepted through November 18th. 15 photos will be
chosen and the winners will be notified. Visit the Berkeley high
website at <www.bhs.berkeley.k12.ca.us> or see Mr. Hoffman in H102 for
more information.
4. You are summoned to a secret council! Come learn about the state of
our Middle Earth and become a fellow of the Middle Earth Society. This
council Elrond will take place in G305 Wednesday October 26 at lunch.
Remember its secret!
