STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN

Administration

1.	Hey Freshman:   Are you interested in student government?  Do you 
want to be the president of your class?  Pick up an application for 
Leadership at the main office and return it by October 7th to the 
Leadership box.

2.	Calling all Homecoming King and Queen Candidates:  You need to sign 
up and start campaigning.  All students who would like to run for 
Homecoming Royalty need to attend a mandatory meeting on Friday, 
September 30, at lunch in Conference Room A.

3.	The Berkeley High School Site Council will meet on Tuesday, 
September 27, 2005 from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm in the BHS school library.  
On the agenda are training of new SSC members and election of the SSC 
chair, vice chair, recorder, and representatives to the Shared 
Governance Committee.  All members and alternates should attend.

4.	Save the date:  Coordinated School Health Project at Berkeley High 
School will hold its first meeting on Wednesday, September 28, in 
Conference Room B from 1:30-3:00 pm.  Staff, parents, teachers are 
invited.  Call Shannon Singleton-Banks at 253-6448 with your questions.

5.	Proctors needed in the College/ Career Center for periods 3, 4, and 
6. Please see Ms. Harris or Ms. Abrams if you interested.

6.	JOBS:  Five after-school jobs are available now at the Berkeley 
Public Library.    Pick up and return applications to the Reference 
Desk on the 2nd floor of the Central Library.  The deadline is 
Thursday, September 29. You must be at least 16 years old by the date 
of hire.  For more info, call 981-6135.

Clubs
1.	  If you are looking for a way to make those ideas reality then come 
to a Makeup Crew meeting today in A203 at 3:30 p.m.

2.	Master Dance Fusion class:  Come Wednesday, September 28th at lunch 
to Naomi Washington’s room.  Class taught by Jabris Patterson and 
Jedias (Alvin Jackson).  We have something 4 everybody (African, 
Ballet, Jazz, Modern and Hip Hop).  You don’t miss this!  Bring your 
lunches and let’s dance!

3.	Are you interested in learning Japanese?  Do you want to be able to 
read Manga or speak to a Japanese person?  Well, come to Japanese 
Learner’s club every Wednesday at lunch in C334.

4.	Join us, The Drama Club, on our 4th Annual trip to the Lenea 
Festival, a statement theatre festival in Sacramento.  Learn about it 
at lunch in the Drama room on Tuesday.

5.	Progressive Club is back!  We’ve got lots of politicians to meet.  
Come Friday, September 30th in A105.  Come and fight for your rights.

6.	Cowabunga, dudes and dudettes!  Get stoked for surf club.  Club 
meets Wednesdays at lunch in H114, all levels welcome.  Any questions 
contact Ben Rubin, Anna McDowell or Anna Kalkanis-Ellis.  Catch you in 
H114, where the surf’s up all the time.

7.	Are you interested in joining an ultimate Frisbee Club?  Playing a 
new sport, getting in great shape and even playing against other clubs? 
  Come to an informational meeting on Thursday, September 29th at lunch 
in Mr. Fike’s classroom in the old gym.

Sports
1.	Open Gym for Boys has been moved to Tuesday and Friday between 4:00 
and 6:00 pm in the Jacket Gym.  This is open to all BHS boys and is not 
a tryout for boy’s basketball.  No food or drink is allowed in the gym. 
  If you have questions regarding boys basketball tryouts, coaches will 
be on hand to answer them at the open gym.

Senior / Junior Section
1.	Seniors the deadline for Senior portraits is Saturday, October 8th. 
ABC Harrell can be contacted at 510-655-2099 to make an appointment.  
If you don’t meet this deadline you will not be in the yearbook.

2.	PSAT SIGN UP INFORMATION _ We will take sign-ups September 21 
through September 30 during lunch and after school until 4:00 pm at the 
D building ticket window on Allston.  The cost is $22, cash or money 
order only. Money orders should be made payable to Berkeley High.

3.	More PSAT information:  If you think your family income qualifies 
you for a fee waiver for the PSAT, please see Ms. Abrams in the 
College/
Career Center for documentation.  Then bring the paperwork to the 
ticket window on Allston Way during lunch or after school to 4 p.m.  
and for you
the test will cost nothing.  The PSAT will be given October 15th, 
Saturday.  Students should report to the garden area between the 
Donahue Gym and the C building at 8:30 a.m.  Bring your receipt, your 
photo ID, a calculator and several number 2 pencils.

Events/ Performance
1.	The BHS Canned Food Drive is coming.  In order to prepare for the 
Holiday Meal, students can donate non-perishable canned foods to their 
second period class.  The class that donates the most cans will win a 
pizza party.  The food drive begins on September 29th at Back to School 
night.

2.	Celebrate your freedom to read!  Visit the Berkeley High library 
this week during Banned Books Week.  Look at the display of challenged 
books and guess why someone tried to ban these titles.  Free people 
read freely!

SALES
1.	Second order Bart tickets are in.   Please pick up your tickets as 
soon as possible.  Next Bart ticket orders will take place on September 
29 and 30 at lunchtime at the ticket booth in the D building.
