SAT WORD OF THE DAY:   VIRULENT - aggressively harmful.  In its early
stages the AIDS virus presents few physical symptoms, but as time
passes it becomes quite virulent.

PSAT SIGN UP INFORMATION - The PSAT will be given on October 15 at
Berkeley High.  We will take sign-ups September 21 through September
30 during lunch and after school until 4:00 p.m. at the D building
ticket window on Allston Way. The cost is $22, cash or money order
only. Money orders should be made payable to Berkeley High.

FOR PARENTS
September 27 - Senior parents college night at 6:30 p.m. in the BHS
library.  Please come to get all of your questions answered about the
college application process.

FOR SENIORS
COLLEGE REPRESENTATIVE VISITS.  The complete September list is
available in D221.  Sign up to get more information on colleges from
around the country.  You must have your teacher's signed

REMINDER:  If you are applying to private colleges which need a
counselor recommendation, your Senior Profiles are due TODAY for
Regular Decision.  You do NOT need to fill these out if you are
applying only to the UC's, Cal State Universities or community
colleges.

SCHOLARSHIPS
Sinkler Miller Medical Association High School Scholarship
Application.  Scholarship for African-American students.  Pick up an
application in the College/Career Center. Deadline:  September 27.

FOR JUNIORS AND SENIORS
SAT/ACT TEST DATES -September 30 is the late registration deadline
for the October 22 ACT test.  September 30 is the regular
registration deadline for the November 5 SAT and SAT subject tests.
I generally recommend that juniors take the PSAT in October and wait
until spring to take the SAT or the ACT.

WRITING COMPETITION FOR 10-12TH GRADERS - Bennington College Young
Writers Awards invite you to submit your poem, short story, play or
nonfiction essay.  Submission forms are available in D221.  Deadline:
November 1.

*College Admissions Course at Albany Adult School.  Taught by veteran
College Admissions Counselor Jim Walker on high school academic
advising, college admissions testing, college selection, etc.  This
two session class is held on October 5 and 6 from 7:00-9:00.
Register at the Albany Adult School, 559-6580.  Cost: $25.

FOR ALL STUDENTS
*Mentoring for Academic Success - free tutoring by UC Berkeley tutors
