SAT WORD OF THE DAY: STYMIE – to get in the way of; impede. John’s
failure to turn in his final paper stymied his efforts to pass his
history class.
I have received many questions regarding the PSAT test for sophomores
and juniors. It will be given at Berkeley High on Saturday, October
15th. Information on registering for the test will be in future
bulletins later this month.
FOR PARENTS
September 27 – Senior parents college night at 6:30 p.m. in the BHS
library. Please come to get all of your questions answered about the
college application process.
FOR SENIORS
College Representative visits are starting. The complete September
list is available in D221. Sign up to get more information on colleges
from around the country. You must have your teacher’s signed
authorization to attend each session. The first week’s visits are as

San Francisco State, Sonoma State and many more. If you have a 2.0 or
above, bring several copies of your transcript and test scores and you
can talk one-on-one with official college admissions representatives.
COLLEGE INFORMATION SESSIONS IN THE BAY AREA
TODAY - September 12 – Brown University Talent Question presents a
program on how to prepare for and apply to college. Children’s
Hospital and Research Center, Outpatient Center Auditorium, Basement
Floor, 744 52nd Street, Oakland, 7-9 pm.
September 14 – U of Pennsylvania information session, 7:30 p.m., Crowne
Plaza Hotel, Union Square, 480 Sutter Street, San Francisco. No
reservation necessary.
September 14 – Yale information session. Berkeley High School Little
Theater, 7:00 p.m.
September 23 – Warren Wilson College reception. San Francisco Maritime
Museum, National Park-Building 35.
September 25 – Columbia University information session. The Westin San
Francisco Airport, 1 Old Bayshore Highway, Millbrae, 1:00-3:00 p.m.
September 28 – Northwestern University information session. Waterfront
Plaza Hotel, Jack London Square, 10 Washington Street, Oakland. 7:30
p.m.
REMINDER: If you are applying to private colleges which need a
counselor recommendation, your Senior Profiles are due on September
23rd for Regular Decision. You do NOT need to fill these out if you
are applying only the UC’s, Cal State Universities or community
colleges.
SCHOLARSHIPS

FOR JUNIORS AND SENIORS
SAT/ACT TEST DATES – September 14 is the late registration deadline for
the October 8 SAT and SAT subject tests. College Board will allow
students to use a fee waiver to register for this test until September
14. September 16 is the regular registration deadline for the October
22 ACT test. I generally recommend that juniors take the PSAT in
October and wait until spring to take the SAT or the ACT. Come to the
College Center every day from 3:30 to 4:00 if you need help setting up
an online account with College Board.

JOB INFORMATION
East Bay Municipal Utility District has an opening for a worker
trainee, preferably a junior or senior in high school who is at least
16 years old and has a minimum of 2.0 GPA. Students must be available
to work 3 to 4 consecutive hours between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday
through Friday for a maximum of 19.5 hours per week. Applications
