STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN
September 9, 2005

Administration
1.  All students in the halls during class time must have a pass.

2.  Students- If you need to take the Exit Exam, please make sure to report
to the Jacket Gym at 7:30 on Tuesday for English and Wednesday for Math.
And remember that you get tutoring for the Exit Exam in the Student
Learning Center!

3.  Attention all leadership officers:  Weekly lunchtime class meetings are
as follows- Sophomores will meet on Mondays in D148.  Juniors will meet on
Mondays in Conference room B.  Seniors will meet on Tuesdays in conference
room B.  ASB will meet Wednesday in D148.

4.  Are you interested in having fun and helping the community?  Come to
the first meeting of Key Club at lunch on September 12th in A105.  We look
forward to meeting all present and future Key Clubbers!

5.  Spirit week for fall 2005 will begin October 31 and will be a four day
event since there is no school that Friday.  On Saturday, November 5th
the Homecoming game against Encinal High and our Homecoming dance will
occur.  If you have any thoughts about these plans, please submit a
written response to the leadership office in the main office by Friday,
September 16th.

6.  Have a voice in your school events.  Leadership is planning to hold a
Back to School Dance on September 23rd.  It will be open to the whole
school and will take place in the Student Union.  If you are interested or
have comments, please submit a written response into the leadership box in
the main office.

7.  JOB INFORMATION- East Bay Municipal Utility District has an opening for
a worker trainee, preferably a junior or senior in high school who is at
least 16 years old and has a minimum of 2.0 GPA.  Students must be
available to work 3 to 4 consecutive hours between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Lawrence Berkeley Lab is looking for a senior to work as a student asst.
for two hours per day, in the computing sciences/human resources
department.  Contact Susan Johnson at 510-495-2802.

6.  FOR ALL STUDENTS:  Win a $1,000 Certificate of Deposit to use for
future education.  Sponsored by Albertsons and KCBS.  Applicants must
write a 250 word essay on The Importance of Education in Tomorrow's
World, and submit two letters of recommendation.  Applications available
in the College Center and at http://www.kcbs.com.
Deadline: October 21.


Clubs
1.  Hey Berkeley High School.  Are you interested in joining Best Buddies,
a club that matches students with and without intellectual disabilities in
one to one friendships?  If so, please come to our first informational
meeting at lunch on Thursday, September 15th in H106.  See ya there!

2.  Now recruiting: BHSHC Peer Health Educators and Youth Advisors.  Pick
up applications in the BHS Health Center waiting room.  Applications are
due September 14th.

3.  Would you like to be on the coordinating committee of dances and other
teen events?  If you’re a sophomore or junior, get an application form
from Molly Bilick, Hannah Badal or Sara Shor or call 847-7217, 649-1301
for details.


Sports
1.  Students interested in the Berkeley High Crew should plan on attending
an informational meeting for new and returning rowers on Monday.  BHS Crew
has men's and women's teams and no previous rowing experience is required.
Come to the Erg Room at the south end of the old gym on Monday, Sept. 12
at 4:20 PM to meet the coaches, other rowers and learn all about Crew.

2.  All girls interested in trying out for BHS girls basketball must come
to a meeting on Thursday 9/15  at 4:00 PM upstairs in the old gym in M202.

3.  Students who are interested in announcing at this seasons football and
basketball games should see Mrs. Glenchur in the Athletic Office next week
at lunch.

4.  Attention all students who want to try out for a winter sport-
basketball, soccer or wrestling.  SCHEDULE YOUR PHYSICAL APPT AT THE
HEALTH CENTER OR DOCTOR NOW.  You must have a complete athletic packet,
including physical, to turn in to the coach on Monday, Nov. 7, the first
day of tryouts. Do not turn in physicals to the athletic office prior to
that date.

5.  Baseball players:  All players interested in playing on a BHS Baseball
team, who did not play for BHS last year, should come to a lunchtime
meeting on Tuesday, September 13th in  room C128.

6.  All students interested in running track and field in the spring should
come to an informational meeting on Tuesday, September 20th on the BHS
bleachers at 4:30 PM. Questions? See Humphrey Garrett in the Weight Room
after school everyday.


Senior / Junior Section
1.  Senior Portrait appointments can be made at abcharrell.com for
Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the Community Theatre.  Appointments can
be scheduled between 3:30 and 8:30 on Thursday and Friday and all day
Saturday.

2.  SENIORS- If you are applying to private colleges which need a counselor
recommendation, your Senior Profiles are due on September 9th if you are
applying Early Decision or Early Action and September 23rd for Regular
Decision.  You do NOT need to fill these out if you are applying only the
UC's, Cal State Universities or community colleges.

3.  Senior  College Representative visits are starting.  The complete
September lists are available in D221.  Sign up to get more information on
colleges from around the country.  You must have your teacher's signed
authorization to attend each session.  The first week's visits are as
follows:

4.  AXA Achievers Scholarship- win up to $25,000.  Describe in detail an
outstanding achievement you have accomplished in a non-academic activity
or project which occurred in school, community or workplace.  Applications

Events/ Performance
  1.  Designs for shirts and hats for the class of 07 Homecoming packet are
needed!  Please submit ideas to the Jr. Class President Kai Grace, Tuesday
at lunch in Conference Room B.

2.  New Jazz Ensemble Auditions:  September 7-9 in A201 at 3:15 p.m.
