SAT WORD OF THE DAY:  INCONSEQUENTIAL - of minor importance.  Unlike
the Beatles, the Mealybugs were inconsequential in the development of
rock music.

*I have received many questions regarding the PSAT test for
sophomores and juniors.  It will be given at Berkeley High on
Saturday, October 15th.  Information on registering for the test will
be in future bulletins later this month.

FOR PARENTS

September 27 - Senior parents college night at 6:30 p.m. in the BHS
library.  Please come to get all of your questions answered about the
college application process.

FOR SENIORS

College Representative visits are starting.  The complete September
list is available in D221.  Sign up to get more information on
colleges from around the country.  You must have your teacher's
signed authorization to attend each session.  The first week's visits
are as follows:

COLLEGE INFORMATION SESSIONS IN THE BAY AREA
September 10 - Colgate University information session, 1800 Old
Bayshore Highway, Burlingame, 9:30 a.m.  Call 315-228-7401 for a
reservation.  Note:  Colgate is unable to send a representative to
Berkeley High this year.
September 14 - U of Pennsylvania information session, 7:30 p.m.,
Crowne Plaza Hotel, Union Square, 480 Sutter Street, San Francisco.
No reservation necessary.

SENIORS:  Mr. Stringfellow and I will be speaking to your English
classes beginning on September 12th and setting up individual
appointments the following week.  Until then, you may stop by at
lunch or after school to get your questions answered.

REMINDER:  If you are applying to private colleges which need a
counselor recommendation, your Senior Profiles are due on September
9th if you are applying Early Decision or Early Action and September
23rd for Regular Decision.  You do NOT need to fill these out if you
are applying only the UC's, Cal State Universities or community
colleges.

Need help with your Senior Profile?  Come to the College Center at
lunchtime on Tuesday, September 6 or Thursday, September 8.  Janet
Huseby will be here to help you.

SCHOLARSHIPS
AXA Achievers Scholarship - win up to $25,000.  Describe in detail an
outstanding achievement you have accomplished in a non-academic
activity or project which occurred in school, community or workplace.

FOR JUNIORS AND SENIORS

*SAT/ACT TEST DATES - TODAY - September 7 is the regular registration
deadline for the October 8 SAT and SAT subject tests.  However,
College Board will allow students to use a fee waiver until September
14.  September 16 is the regular registration deadline for the
October 22 ACT test.  I generally recommend that juniors take the
PSAT in October and wait until spring to take the SAT or the ACT.
Come to the College Center every day from 3:30 to 4:00 if you need
help setting up an online account with College Board.

JOB INFORMATION
East Bay Municipal Utility District has an opening for a worker
trainee, preferably a junior or senior in high school who is at least
16 years old and has a minimum of 2.0 GPA.  Students must be
available to work 3 to 4 consecutive hours between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00
p.m. Monday through Friday for a maximum of 19.5 hours per week.

Lawrence Berkeley Lab is looking for a senior to work as a student
assistant for two hours per day, in the computing sciences/human
resources department.  General office work, should know Microsoft
Office and enjoy working with people.  $7.00 an hour.  Free shuttle

FOR ALL STUDENTS

two letters of recommendation.  Applications available in the College

If you are interested in international affairs, check out the World
Affairs Council School Program.  You can participate in International
Career Day or become a Student Ambassador.  More information is
available in the College/Career Center. Application deadline is
September 23.
