1. Schedule changes. If your student is unhappy with his or her schedule
they may put in a "request for schedule change." The forms are available
right outside the counseling office. These forms MUST be submitted by
Friday, September 2 for consideration. NO requests will be accepted after
Friday. If at all possible, changes are granted if your student is in the
wrong level (Spanish 5, for instance, when it should be Spanish 1) OR a
wrong class (Physics, for instance, when Chemistry is needed). Changes are
not made if a student does not like a particular teacher or, having
requested a class in the Spring, decides they don't want to take it after
all. Many students want to change their Lab period because of sports
commitment. They should certainly put in a request for a change--they may
or may not get it. While waiting to hear from a counselor, students should
continue to attend their original schedule. That way, a volunteer, can find
the student to deliver the new schedule or a note saying the schedule can
not be changed.

2. Appointments. Counselor's are not making appointments to see students.
First they are working on schedules for students who do not have a schedule
at all. Then they will start working their way through the piles of
schedule change forms. If they feel they have to talk to a student because
the course of action is not clear--they will have a volunteer deliver a note
to the student asking them to come in.

3. You can see from items 1 and 2, we need more volunteers to deliver these
schedule changes. Today we had 40(!) volunteers working various jobs from
lockers to attendance runs to schedule change deliveries--and, at times, we
could have used more. If you can help over the next 10 days--Berkeley High
needs you as do the students anxiously waiting to have a schedule change
delivered. Please come into the front office and I or someone else will
direct you to where you are needed. Schedule changes deliveries and
attendance runs are a nice way to walk the halls and drop into class after
class.

4. Unfortunately, there is no on campus parking for parents. The two tennis
courts and the lot near the field are reserved for teachers and staff during
the school day. Cars will be towed if they do not have a parking pass. I
have had luck with non metered two-hour parking along MLK next to the
football field or near Washington School.

Thank you for thinking of coming into help.
