The Berkeley High Student Court is an exciting program set to begin
at BHS this fall during 7th period. Like all youth courts, the Court
is a student-based discipline system designed to help students
understand the effect of their actions on others while at the same
time furthering their education. Student lawyers speak for the
defendant and for the victim or the community, and a seven-member
student jury determines the sentence only. An adult judge oversees
the trial.

Students who sign up for the student court will be enrolled in a
section of the leadership class, as the school believes this is an
important new opportunity for students to exert leadership at BHS.

Look for an application outside room H201 once school begins or
contact Josh Daniels - jrdaniels at berkeley.edu or 510-717-1185 - for
more information.
