Dear BHS parents,
A few parents have asked for us to give more information about the survey
request that you received last week. This email is an attempt to clarify who
and for what purpose this survey was constructed and distributed.


Jean Wing and I (Colette Cann) were hired as outside evaluators by BHS and
BayCES to examine the progress that BHS makes in its effort to implement
small school reform at BHS. As part of this three year evaluation, we were
asked to get input from parents, students and teachers on their experiences
at BHS in a small school, program or the large school. One method of data
collection that we have chosen is to survey parents, teachers and students
about their perceptions of the community's experience at BHS.


Jean and I have created a paper and on-line version of this survey. Janet
Huseby has been kind enough to distribute the invitation to participate to
parents of students in the large school. The survey program tracks
participation by email address (which is why you are asked to register with
an email address). This is the only use of your email address. You will not
receive any spam or advertising as a result of registering. Once you
complete the survey, you will, though, receive a confirmation email from the
program.


Results from the survey will be shared in a manner determined by BHS and
BayCES.

    Each year, Berkeley High School and BayCES will survey parents of all
small schools,
    programs and the large high school to better understand how parents feel
about
    services provided to the community, students, parent and teachers by
their school.
    The survey is titled: "Berkeley High School Parent Perception Survey
2005"


    We encourage all parents to participate by taking this 15 minute online
survey.

    Once you select this link, you will be asked to register to ensure that
each parent/guardian/family only participates once each year in the survey.
To register, simply enter your name and an email address. You will be sent a
unique link to the survey that can only be used once after you have
completed and saved the survey (if you start the survey, but do not complete
and save it, the link will remain active for you to use later).


    Thanks so much for your time in advance! The results will be used to
evaluate how the small schools movement works to serve all students.
