SAT WORD OF THE DAY: BUOYANT – cheerful. You’re likely to find a
buoyant atmosphere at Berkeley High School graduation.
FOR JUNIORS
TODAY, 10:35 a.m. (3rd period) - FIND OUT ABOUT THE INCENTIVE AWARDS
PROGRAM AT UC BERKELEY – This is a great leadership program with a
$30,000 scholarship to Cal. A Berkeley High grad who is part of this
program will be in the College/Career Center to explain the program and
answer your questions about UC Berkeley. Sign up in the College
Center.
If you are considering applying to a private college, pick up the
Senior Profile in the College/Career Center so that you can complete it
over the summer. The information you provide will be used by your
counselor to write your recommendation.
The “Junior Summer To Do List” is now available in the College/Career
Center. Pick up your copy so that you can get some of your college
preparation done over the summer, which will make your senior year much
easier.
There is an error in the booklet “Introducing the University” on the
University of California campuses. On page 12, the 2004 statistics for
undergraduate enrollment by ethnicity at UC Davis is incorrect. The
correct information is as follows: African American – 2.6%; American
Indian: 0.7%; Asian/Pacific Islander – 36.1%; Chicano/Latino – 10.8%;
White – 39.6%; Other – 5.4%; Not State: 4.8%.
Interested in a film major? Cal State Northridge was named the best
and most balanced film and communications school in Southern California
by the Association of Independent Film Producers, beating out USC, UCLA
and the American Film Institute. The school focuses on preparing
students for a wide variety of jobs in film, television and radio.
Check it out at www.csun.edu.
JUNIORS – the new UC eligibility index is now available. You can find
it at
http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/
paths_to_adm/freshman/scholarship_reqs.html. Paper forms to calculate
your eligibility are also available in the College Center. I
understand that some people are having problems getting to the site.
If you are unable to access the webpage, try cutting and pasting the
entire URL in your web browser rather than clicking on it.
SENIOR SECTION.
CSF Sealbearers – pick up your cord and tassel in the College Center.
Turn in a Transcript Request Form to Ms. Mellion in D173 so that we can
send an official transcript to the school you will be attending in the
fall. This is required for all four year colleges. Write in capital
letters across the top “FINAL TRANSCRIPT” and paperclip it to a stamped
business size envelope addressed to the college. Use Berkeley High
School as the return address (1980 Allston Way, Berkeley, CA 94704),
not your home address. If you are under 18, please remember to have
your parent or guardian sign the request form. Deadline: June 3rd.
Vista College has a new major – the Global Studies Program. Get an AA
degree that prepares you for transfer to many UC and CSU programs; take
classes with the same students for two years; work closely with core
faculty and counselors and work at local non-profits. For more
information, contact Joan Berezin at 981-2884 or e-mail
jberezin at peralta.edu.
