BUSD Board Updates May 25, 2005 of interest to BHS. Board Packets &

1. Board and Superintendent’s Comments:
Board Members expressed their appreciation to the BFT and BUSD negotiating
teams for their tireless work in reaching a tentative agreement.
Superintendent Lawrence complemented the BFT leadership for their
professionalism and integrity in what was a difficult time for the entire
educational community. Following a vote by BFT members and the County
Office of Education’s approval of the financial implications, the BUSD
Board of Education is expected to be able to vote on the contract at the
June 8th board meeting.

2. The Board approved demolition of the East Campus site, with the exception
of a Redwood
tree located on the Milvia side of the site. The Board will wait for
further reports in regard to the viability of saving the tree that is
damaged, and the effect that it’s remaining would have on the proposed
athletic field. Demolition is scheduled to begin in late June.

3. The Board voted to approve the Comprehensive Site Plan for Berkeley High
School. The plan is based on the 2004-05 WASC Self Study, and will be
revised annually, based on current data.
The plan is available for review in the May 25, 2005 Board packet, located
in the Board Meeting section of the BUSD website: [

WASC Self Study is available for review at Berkeley High School.

4. The Board voted to approve the Open Derby Field Masterplan and Schematic
Design.  The Board directed staff to proceed with development of a Derby
Street closed option, and to inform the City of the proposed process and
timeline so they can be prepared to act in a reasonable time period.

5.The Board is seeking applications for vacancies in these areas:
-Facilities Safety & Maintenance Oversight   Committee (FSMOC)
-School Construction Oversight Committee (SCOC)

The BUSD School Board Meeting will be re-broadcast
on Berkeley Community Media Cable Channel 33 on
Sunday May 29, at 1:00PM.

All Board meetings are broadcast live on Berkeley
Community Media Cable Channel 33 and KPFB Radio
89.3, and re-broadcasted on channel 33 the following
Thursday morning at 9AM and often two times over the weekend.
