[BHS etree] EVENTS: BFT/BUSD Tentative Agreement

Dear Parent Supporters and Community Members,

This is to let you know that a conceptual agreement was reached over the
weekend between the BFT Negotiations Team and the BUSD Negotiations Team on
a new contract.  A tentative agreement will be signed once all new language
has been reviewed and incorporated into a final tentative agreement
document.  In the meantime, the State-appointed mediator has directed both
the District and the Union to remain silent about the details of the
conceptual agreement.  It is expected that the tentative agreement will be
formally signed on Wednesday  of this week (May 25) and that the BFT
Negotiations Team will be able to present the details of the tentative
agreement at a BFT Membership Meeting scheduled for Thursday of this week
(May 26). The BFT contract ratification voting period will extend from May
26 through June 3 and the BUSD Board of Education will also need to ratify
before the contract is final.

We will provide you with more details about the tentative agreement and
other related issues as soon as possible.

On behalf of Berkeley teachers, I want to sincerely thank you for all of
your efforts.  It is thanks to you that we were able reach a negotiated
resolution and avoid a strike.  Your support made the difference!
