At the board meeting on May 11, 2005 the Board discussed the following items
of interest to BHS:

1. The Board voted to approve the projected expenditure reductions in the
unrestricted general fund. Reductions approved by the Board totaled $903,180
over two years. The recovery plan is available for review in the May 11,
2005 Board packet, located in the Board Meeting section of the BUSD website:

2.  The Board voted to approve the Berkeley High School South of Bancroft
Plan for the purpose of the initial study and further investigation of
portions of that plan. The plan is available for review in the May 11, 2005
Board packet, located
in the Board Meeting section of the BUSD website:
http://www.berkeley.k12.ca.us ]www.berkeley.k12.ca.us, and a color copy is
available for review at the Kittredge (Main) branch of the Berkeley Public
Library.

3. The Board received and reviewed the Monthly School Enrollment and Average
Daily Attendance Summaries for the 2003-04 and the 2004-05 school years.
Student enrollment for March 2005 totaled 8,853, with 8.25% of monthly
absences (14141), costing the District $401,180.17 in projected ADA. Each
student absence results in $28.37 per day in unearned revenue for the
District. Since 1997, school districts can no longer claim any absences,
including excused absences, for apportionment attendance. The Board believes
that regular attendance plays an important role in student achievement.

4. All Board packets are available for review in all five branches of the
Berkeley Public Library, and in the office of the Superintendent. The BUSD
School Board Meeting will be re-broadcast on Berkeley Community Media Cable
Channel 33 on Sunday May 15, at 1 p.m. All Board meetings are broadcast live
on Berkeley Community Media Cable Channel 33 and KPFB Radio 89.3, and
re-broadcasted on channel 33 the following Thursday morning at 9 a.m. and
often two times over the weekend. The weekend schedule varies, but schedule
