Administration
1. BSEP Meeting will be held Thursday, March 24th at 4:30 pm in
Conference room B. Agenda items: Introductions/ Welcome; Establish a
quorum;
Develop a schedule of visits to programs funded last year; Calendar for
remainder of the 2005 school year; Distribute BSEP applications
binders;
discussion of criteria for acceptable BSEP proposals; public comment;
and adjournment;
2. BART tickets will be for sale today, March 23rd at lunch in D148.
3. Don’t forget to sign up for your AP tests THIS WEEK. Personal checks
(etree note: Yes, this is new and confirmed), money orders, or
cashier’s checks written to Berkeley High School are being accepted at
lunch and after school (3:30 to 4:00 pm) at the D building ticket
windows on Allston Way through this Friday ONLY. Unless you want the
AP designation dropped from your transcript, you must sign up to test
for any AP course you are taking. Students taking one or two tests pay
$95 per test. Students taking more than two tests, pay $82 for each
additional test. Also, if you are taking an AP test and have qualified
for special accommodations through the College Board, please see
Benette Williams when you sign up or in C106.
4. The prestigious Environmental Goldman Awards ceremony will be
Monday, April 18. Interested students should see Hildebrandt in C131,
or send me
an email <senorjoel at comcast.net>. Please let me know before spring
break if you want to attend.
5. Please note: The minimum day in April has been changed from
Wednesday, April 6th to Wednesday, April 13th. Students start school
at 10:00 am on
Wednesday, April 13th. Please mark your calendars.
6. Anyone wanting to take the qualification test for Honors Algebra 2
on April 11 or April 12 or Honors Math Analysis on April 14 needs to
send an email to Ms. Bodenhausen at <jbodenhausen at berkeley.k12.ca.us>
sometime this week.
Clubs
1. Asian and Pacific Islander Committee members please drop by during
lunch on Friday to pick up official flyers to pass out during Spring
Break in room C327.
2. Having sex? Thinking about having sex? Come to A205 at lunch on
April 4th for Condom Club. Learn to use a condom correctly and get
free condoms from the Health Center.
3. Ladies of BHS – “Speak on It” is back come this Thursday at
lunchtime Conf. Room A in the Admin building. All girls are welcome.
Come talk
about issues that matter to you! Light lunch and drinks served. See
you there!
4. This is LaRaza Unida and we want to let you know that in order to
bring the Chicano/ Latino studies back you need to sign up for the
classes during online scheduling. For Chicano/ Latino History class
code is: LB01 and For Chicano/ Latino Literature class code is: LA08.

Sports
Senior / Junior Section
1. Express Tuxedo will be here on Wednesday and Friday this week!
Please come to the courtyard at lunch and get your tuxedo for the
Junior Prom or
Senior Ball. You can pay a $35 deposit to get things started. Don’t
delay! Prom time is here…..
2. College visit:
Monday, April 4, 1:20 pm – Harvard University
3. Alright young ladies! Prom time is quickly approaching. Hair,
Nails, Shoes, and free! That’s right-- Free Dresses! The Princess
Project of San
Francisco is giving away free dresses on April 2nd and April 9th from
10 – 5 pm. See Ms. McKnight, your counselor, or Ms. Jefferson for more
information.
4. College of Alameda is hosting “Spring into College” days including
priority registration, one-step services including assessment testing,
orientation, counseling, program planning and enrollment, financial aid
and transferring, March 30 and 31, 9;00 am to 2:00 pm. (Students only
attend for one day.) To register, call Anna O’Neal at 510-748-2307.
Events/ Performance
1. Wednesday, March 23, 2005- BHS Poetry Slam! Slam: 7:00 pm room
G210. $1 donation at the door will cover prize. Sign up to read, 6:30
pm. Have
two poems ready in case you make round 2.
2. Audition for Advanced Theatre Projects for next year! For those not
currently in Drama class, you can come at lunch Wednesday and Thursday
to audition in room A203. You need one contemporary monologue and
willingness to improvise!
3. Attention all music fans: the Tsunami Relief Group is having a
concert to “Rock Against Tsunami’s” on Friday, March 25th in the Little
Theater.
The doors open at 7;30 pm, show starts at 8:00 pm. Admission is $5 for
students and $6 general admission. Band includes Sweet Nothings,
Epilogue and Minipop. There’s also going to be an 80’s fashion contest
with fabulous prizes. All admissions and refreshments proceeds will go
to Tsunami Relief.
4. Have you ever considered joining the military? Been approached by a
military recruiter? Do you know what rights you have if a military
draft
is reinstated? On Wednesday, March 23rd, the CAS Social-Action
committee will host a teach in during 2nd through 5th periods in the
Little Theater. Experts from the community will present their
experiences and answer your questions. 2nd period will feature a slide
show given by a returned soldier from Iraq. 3rd period is a panel
discussion about military recruitment. The 4th period panel will
explain your rights and responsibilities if a draft is reinstated. And
5th period will feature registered conscientious objectors. Students,
tell your teachers to bring your class! Teachers, mark your calendars
and look for a sign up sheet in your boxes! For more information go to

Sales
1. Yearbooks will be sold Monday – Thursday during lunch on the
Community Theater steps. The price will go up after next week, so be
sure to buy
your yearbook next week! The yearbook will also be having a bake sale
on Tuesday. So help support the yearbook and buy some yummy food!
2. Do you like cookies, brownies, rice krispy treats and cupcakes?
Want to eat them at school? Come to the Pashen Bake Sale on Friday,
March 25th
on the senior steps. All proceeds go the PASHEN (Peers Advocating
Sexual Health Now).
3. Attention Seniors! Sign up this week for the Senior trip to
Disneyland. The deposit of $65 is due this week. We still have 45
seats
to fill. Please come at lunch to the Community Theater box office to
make a payment.
