STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN

Administration

1.	BSEP Meeting will be held Thursday, March 24th at 4:30 pm in
Conference Room B.  We need all members (students, teachers, parents)
present.  This is a very important meeting.  We will be reviewing all
the proposals. Please be present and on time!

2.	School Site Council meeting on Monday, March 21, 2005 from 4:30 to
6:00 pm in the school library.  On the agenda are reports about 1)
choices and
student assignment (i.e. enrollment in the small schools, the large
school, and Academic Choice for 2005-2006), and 2) the English Learners
program.  All representatives and alternates should attend.  For more

3.      If you are interested in commenting on our teachers in their
“Work
to Rule” issue, you can do the following:

Thanks to all the students who have shown an interest in the effort to
ratify a contract.

4.	Class of 2006:  Do you like writing short stories?  Sign up for the
new English course, Reading and Writing the Short Story, proposed by
Mr. Bye. You will get full English credit from Cal for this course.

5.	AP EXAMS:  You can register for AP exams.  Students can register at
the D building ticket window on Allston Way during lunch and after
school from
3:30 pm to 4:00 pm daily through Friday, March 25th.  The fee per test
is $95.  Tests are the first two weeks in May.  For more questions

Rory Bled or Benette Williams.  Payments are to be made to Berkeley
High School, and can be made by cashier’s check or money order only.

6.	Bart Tickets are here for pick up- Lunchtime in D148.  Please check
the Parent Center for lost items such as glasses, keys, and jackets.

Clubs
1.	Hey ELL students:  It’s time to work on the yearbook again.  If
you’re interested in working on the ELL yearbook, come to an
informational
meeting on Monday, March 21st at lunch in C116.  Bring your own lunch
and ideas.  See you there!

2.	Attention: Readers!  Voting day for the California Young Reader
Medal books is here!  If you have read Of sound mind by Jean Ferris,
Bronx
masquerade by Nikki Grimes and Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz, you
are entitled to vote for your favorite.  The authors who received the
most
votes from high school students in California will win the Young Reader
Medal in the Young Adult category.  See Ms. Goldstein-Erickson or Mrs.
Harrison in the library if you would like to participate.

Sports
1.	All JV and Frosh-Soph soccer players need to turn in their uniforms,
warm ups and bags as quickly as possible to Mr. Juarez in room C127.

Senior / Junior Section
1.	Seniors!  Space is still available for the Senior trip!  Please
submit your 1st deposit of $65 payable to Distinguished Charters to the
Community Theater box office at lunch.

2.	Junior Prom Royalty forms will be due by Friday, March 18th.  Forms
are also available in Ms. McKnight-Johnson office at C406.

3.	Seniors: Time is running out.  The cap and gown ordering period is
almost over.  All orders need to be placed by March 25th.  Contact
Jostens right away at 1-408-426-6083.

4.	College visits:
                      On Friday, March 18, in the College and Career
Center, Tryre B. Mills of the Berkeley Fire Department Youth Academy
will
be here from 10:35 am to 11:35 am to talk about the 6 week Youth
Academy, starting, April 2.

                  Monday, April 4, 1:20 pm – Harvard University

5.	Alright young ladies!  Prom time is quickly approaching.  Hair,
Nails, Shoes, and free--that’s right-- free dresses!  The Princess
Project of San
Francisco is giving away free dresses on April 2nd and April 9th from
10 – 5 pm.  See Ms. McKnight, your counselor, or Ms. Jefferson for more
information.

6.	College of Alameda is hosting “Spring into College” days including
priority registration, one-step services including assessment testing,
orientation, counseling, program planning and enrollment, financial aid
and transferring, March 30 and 31, 9;00 am to 2:00 pm.  (Students only
attend for one day.)  To register, call Anna O’Neal at 510-748-2307.

Events/ Performance
1.	On Friday, March 18th at 7:30 pm the award winning BHS Jazz Ensemble
and combos will play their spring concert.  Dinner- pizza, sandwiches,
drinks and baked goods – will be available.  General admission is $10,
½ price for 12 and under and FREE for BUSD faculty, students and staff,
as
well as the merchants who donated so generously to our Silent Auction
at the Berkeley Rep.  A big thank you to the community for all if its
support!

2.	Do you want to change the world?  Are you interested in meeting
teens from other countries?  Are you a young woman between 16 and 19
years old?
Come to a presentation about Building Bridges for peace, a program
which brings together American, Israeli, and Palestinian young women
for a 2
week summer intensive and yearlong leadership development and peace
building program.  See yourself as an active agent in creating more
peaceful societies. Come learn more!

3.	Wednesday, March 23, 2005- BHS Poetry Slam!  Slam: 7:00 pm room
G210. $1 donation at the door will cover prize.  Sign up to read, 6:30
pm.  Have
two poems ready in case you make round 2.

4.	Have you ever considered joining the military?  Been approached by a
military recruiter?  Do you know what rights you have if a military
draft
is reinstated?  On Wednesday, March 23rd, the CAS Social-Action
committee will host a teach in during 2nd through 5th periods in the
Little Theater.
Experts from the community will present their experiences and answer
your questions.  2nd period will feature a slide show given by a
returned
soldier from Iraq.  3rd period is a panel discussion about military
recruitment.  The 4th period panel will explain your rights and
responsibilities if a draft is reinstated.  And 5th period will feature
registered conscientious objectors.  Students, tell your teachers to
bring your class!  Teachers, mark your calendars and look for a sign up
sheet in your boxes!  For more information go to room C324.

5.	BENEFIT:  All-ages rock concert with JAM PLANET, featuring BHS
seniors Andrew Harris and Julian Clark.  Benefit for Cazadero Music
Camp.  Only
$5.00, Three Bands.  Starts at 7:30, Saturday, March 26, at the Oakland
Metro, 2nd and Broadway, near Jack London Square.

6.	Band Works “School of Rock” – If you’ve ever dreamed of playing in a
rock band and playing onstage in front of friends and fans, then join
BandWorks.  BandWorks run both eight week sessions and a summer camp.
Band Works is now registering students for their April session, which
starts April 11 with concerts on June 5 and June 7.  You can register
for Summer Camp now, too.  See <www.bandworks.com> for details on how
to sign up.

7.	Health and Wellness Fair:  Thursday, April 21st.  8:30 am – 4:00 pm.
(1st period through 7th period).  Between the Community Theater and the
C
Building.  Come participate in health-related games and activities!
The Sugar Challenge.  Free Smoothie Samples, Nutrient Rich Food
Samples, Mobile Boulder wall, Blood Pressure Testing, give aways and
prizes.  KMEL Live DJ and Dance Off!

Sales
1.	Yearbooks are currently on sale for $65.00!  They can be bought in
H102 in the morning before 8:15 a.m. or at lunch on Tuesdays and
Thursdays. Prices will go up one more time before the end of the year
so get them now! We are also soliciting advertisements for the
2004/2005 yearbook, ads are $60.00 ¼ page, $100 ½ page, $200 full page.
