etree: There are a number of Berkeley High evening meetings scheduled for
the next few weeks. Below is the etree's attempt to summarize, sort and
simplify.

1. Open House, Thursday, Feb. 24, 7 p.m. Open House follows the same format
as Back to School Night. Parents and guardians follow their student's
schedule starting at first period and spending 10 minutes in each class
(with a six minute passing period.) This is an important opportunity to
meet your child's teacher and find out what will be taught for the spring
semester. Be sure to ask your child to write down his schedule WITH room
numbers.

 2. School Choices at BHS March 3, 7-8:30 p.m. Community Theater, An
informational evening focusing on the many school/program choices BHS
students have in 2005. Current 8th thru 10th grade families are invited.
Berkeley High currently has two small schools (CAS and CP Academy,) the
Comprehensive High School, and Academic Choice, a program within the
comprehensive high school. Next fall two new schools will be opening: AHA,
Arts and Humanities Academy, and SSJE, the school of Social Justice and
Ecology. This evening will be an opportunity to hear from all four of the
small schools, the comprehensive high school and Academic Choice The four
small schools and Academic Choice will be accepting freshmen next year. The
two new schools and Academic Choice will also be accepting sophomores. So,
if you have a current 8th or 9th grader the meeting should be of particular
interest. Students are invited to the meeting.

3. Information Night for the Class of 2009, Wednesday, March 9. An
opportunity for prospective 9th grade students and their families to hear
information from administrators, counselors, department heads, teachers, and
students regarding the 9th grade program, including academics, activities,
and athletics.

 4. Curriculum Night, March 17, 7 p.m. This is an opportunity for current
9-11th grade families to discuss with the counselors and department heads
questions on math sequencing, science levels, Advanced Placement courses,
college requirements, etc. If your kid is not sure what classes to sign up
for next year, this night is not to be missed.
