STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN
January 21, 2005


Administration

1.	The Berkeley High School Site Council will meet on Monday, January 
24,
2005, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. In the school library.  On the agenda are a
report on recycling and a proposal by the Academic Choice Program.  All
representatives and alternates should attend, and anyone interested is
welcome.  For more information, <bhssitecouncil at berkeley.k12.ca.us>

2.	All guests who are coming to the Winter Ball must bring a copy of the
photo ID, when they turn in their contract in order to receive their
tickets.  All photo copy ID’s must be turned in by January 26th.

3.	Have you recently lost someone close to you?  You are invited to 
join a
group of students who are also dealing with the death of a friend or
family member.  If you are interested, please tell your Counselor or Ms.
Jefferson in the Counseling Office.  First meeting is Monday, February 
7th.

4.	Attention Juniors and Seniors:  If you want credit for working, check
with Mrs. Horikoshi in C317 regarding Work experience credit.

Clubs
1.	Best Buddies:  we’re going bowling!  Come to Albany Bowl at 6:00 
p.m. on
Friday, January 21.  You can also meet at BHS at 5:30 p.m. for a ride.
Call your buddies to arrange your meeting place.  There will also be a
club meeting on Thursday at lunch in H106.

2.	The first spring semester student council meeting will be held 
Thursday,
February 3, in C400.  1st Thursday of the semester.  All 2nd period
representatives should attend.  New agenda items. Come and represent 
your
2nd period class.  No student council meetings during finals.  Good 
luck!

3.	Earphone English Club meets this Friday at lunch in C116.  Francisca 
will be
there with new audio books and ideas from the conference she attended 
last
week.

4.	Poetry Slam:  Come back to where it all started, where the first time
poets encounter the veterans, where the cultures and styles and flavors
meet, where everything positive about BHS is at its greatest!  
Wednesday,
February 2, 2005.  Sign up to read, 6:30 pm; Poems at 7:00 pm; Room 
G210.
$1 donation will be accepted at the door, to cover prize.  Note:  This
poetry event will be one of the semi-final qualifying rounds for Youth
Speaks national poetry slam.

Sports
1.	All boys interested in going for the GOLF TEAM, call Coach Dang at
510-540-5738.  First day of practice is February 7 at Tilden Park at
4:00 p.m.

Senior Section
1.	Seniors: apply for one of the many scholarships available in the
College Center.  Don’t miss out on these great opportunities.  Come by 
to
get the complete list.  Some sample scholarships are:

               Asian and Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund –
Student of Asian and or Pacific Islander ethnicity and be a US citizen, 
US
national, permanent resident or citizen of the Freely Associated States,
first time incoming college student in fall 2005, minimum unweighted GPA
of 2.7.  Deadline: February 15.

                Berkeley Community Fund – Senior planning to attend 2 or 
4
year college in the fall of 2005, minimum GPA of 2.5, participates in
extracurricular activities, community service and or employment.
Deadline: March 7.

2.	The Stanford Black Student Union is sponsoring a high school 
conference
on April 2nd titled “Breaking Down Barriers to Success.”  There will be
workshops and seminars.  Open to students in grades 9-12.  Cost: $15.
Applications available in the College/Career Center.  Deadline: March 
18.

3.	FOR SENIORS – Get help filling out your FAFSA and get more 
information
on financial aid resources.  Tuesday, February 22, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Alameda High School Cafeteria, 2201 Encinal Avenue, Alameda.  For more
information, contact College of Alameda, 748-2184.

Events/ Performance
1.	Warm Coat Drive!  Bring warm-coats to distribute to homeless adults.
These coats will be distributed at the community meal at University
Lutheran Chapel on Saturday, January 22nd.  Bring your coats to A203 and
drop them in the box.

2.	Black and White (semi-formal) WINTER BALL on January 28th at Zazoo’s
Restaurant (15 Embarcadero West, Oakland).  Winter ball tickets are on
sale for $30 at lunch in the Community Theater steps.  Prices will go up
so buy your tickets now.

Sales
1.	Yearbooks are on sale for $65.00 every Tuesdays and Thursdays during
lunch or zero period.

2.	Asian Pacific Islander food sale today at lunch in the courtyard.
