BPEF/BUSD Public Education Forums Tuesday January 25, 7PM

The Berkeley Public Education Foundation is sponsoring a series of public
forums as a part of the Berkeley Unified School District planning process.
The first two of the series will take place in January, in the Berkeley
High School Library (BHS Administration building, Milvia & Allston Way):

Tuesday January 25, 2005 - 7PM

"The Future of Education Funding in California"
Ken Hall, Chairman, School Services of California

Monday January 31, 2005 - 7PM

"Approaches to Adequacy"
David Conley, Associate Professor, University of Oregon

Superintendent Michele Lawrence is very excited about the community's
response to the BUSD planning process which she has been organizing for
the past few months. She received over 100 applications for the committees
formed for the process; Education and Finance are already up and running,
and a third will soon be created for the Feedback Group. The BUSD is
opening new doors with this planning process, and we are developing what
will likely become a statewide model for public education.

These forums are an important part of the process that will bring
information to the committees and foster their discussions. Superintendent
Lawrence encourages the community to take advantage of this opportunity to
attend and participate in all of the forums. All of the speakers in the
series have been specifically selected for their particular expertise, and
are considered the leading experts in these uncharted waters.
