Parents--Become a Writing Coach at BHS!

Make a new year's resolution to help make a difference
for students at Berkeley High--become a writing coach
in 2005.

Now in its fourth year, WriterCoach Connection,
formerly Writers' Room, pairs trained volunteers with
students to help them master the writing and critical
thinking skills needed to complete assignments and
succeed.

Coaches commit to a regular, 2-hour/week assignment
(other options possible) and meet weekly, during the
school day, to work one-on-one with students in their
English classes. Or, you can help coach kids at
lunchtime at our Writers' Cafe.

You can learn the step-by-step methods to coach
students--including your own--at one of our Spring
2005 training sessions:

Session A: Thursdays 1/13 & 1/20 6:30-9:30 PM
Session B: Wednesdays 2 /9 &2/16 6:30-9:30 PM
Session C: Tuesdays 3/8 & 3/15 6:30-9:30 PM

Before you begin to coach, you will have an
opportunity for classroom observation and mentoring
by experienced coaches. Coaches are required to
register with Berkeley School Volunteers, a 1.5 hour
orientation.

WCC also serves 8th grade students at King, Longfellow
and
Willard Middle Schools.

Additional info and volunteer registration is
