STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN

Administration
1.	If you have not taken the California High School Exit Exam, or if 
you took it but did not pass, please make sure to report to the Jacket 
Gym at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 16 (English sections) and / or 
Wednesday, November 17th (Math sections).  You must pass this exam in 
order to receive a BHS diploma!  If you have any questions, please see 
Rory Bled, Vice-Principal.

2.	The Jacket Gym will be closed to all sports activities on Tuesday 
and Wednesday (11/16 and 11/17) due to the California Exit Exams.

3.	A big THANK YOU goes out to all the classes and teachers that 
participated in this year’s Teen Dating Violence exhibit and showcase.  
More than 400 students were informed about teen dating violence.  Peer 
RAPP will be hosting its 3rd Annual Open Mic Event in May 2005.

4.	Not comfortable with the Presidential election results?  Have 
questions about the process or future plans of Federal Government?  
Attend the 5th period assembly scheduled for this Friday in the 
Community Theatre, with Congresswoman Barbara Lee.  Students must 
attend with their 5th period teacher.  See Mrs. McKnight for more 
information.

5.	Juniors and Seniors! There is a youth leadership and local 
government free seminar sponsored by the County of Alameda to expose 
students to various aspects of local government functions.  Including 
crime lab, budget allocations, community planning, voting and elections 
and much more.  Members of forensics club and the National Youth rights 
association are encouraged to apply.  See Ms. McKnight- Johnson for 
more information.  The event is scheduled for November 20th.

6.	Quit smoking for a day!  Thursday, November 18th is the American 
Cancer Society’s Teens Kick Ash day.    Contact Tricia Brazil @ 
644-8987 for more information.

7.	Important!  All students who need to take an ID picture please 
report to the Counseling center at these dates and times:
Wednesday
8:00 – 8:30 am
11:30 – 12:15 pm  (lunch)
Thursday
  11:30 – 12:15 pm (lunch)

Clubs
1.	Hey BHS!  Best Buddies is having a bake sale on Thursday, 11/18/04 
in the G and H building breezeway at lunch!  Everything is 25 cents, so 
everyone bring your change.  If you are donating things for the bake 
sale, bring your goodies to H106 in the morning.

2.	Young Women of BHS – “Speak on It” meets every Thursday at lunch in 
conference room B.    Bring a friend.  Come and talk about the issues 
that you want to speak on.  Light lunch served.  All students welcome.  
See you there.  For more information call Shannon Banks at 644-6928.

3.	 Do you care about events that affect people around the world?  
Would you like to make a difference but don’t know how?  Then come and 
join the Amnesty International club.  We will be discussing exciting 
upcoming projects and events this Tuesday in the library, at lunch and 
after
school, don’t miss it!

4.	Come join the Berkeley High GSA!  We have guest speakers, food and 
good friends waiting for you.  We meet every Wednesday at lunch in 
club, but is also a way to make a difference in the Berkeley High 
Community, come be a part of it.

Sports
1.	Congratulations to Berkeley High Girls Volleyball – 2004 ACCAL 
Champions (League record: 14-0).  Berkeley plays Amador Valley High 
School tonight (Tuesday, November 16th) at 7:00 pm. --at Amador-- in 
the first round of NCS playoffs.  Go Jackets!
	
Senior Section
  1.  School visits:

Tuesday, November 16
1:20 pm  UC Irvine

2.	Scholarship Opportunity for seniors- Don H. Splawn Scholarship – 
open to financially disadvantaged seniors who demonstrate significant 
dedication to their school, family and community for use at an 
educational or vocational institution.  $1,000 scholarship.  Deadline: 
November 22.
Applications available in the College/Career Center.

3..	Senior reminder!  Please pick up your early graduation petition 
forms. (Registrar’s office or the Counseling center).   Make sure they 
are completely filled out, by the counselor and your parent.  They are 
due back at the registrar’s office by December 10th.


Events/ Performance
1.	BHS’s own Jazz Ensemble and Combos, ranked No. 1 in the nation, 
performs on Friday the 19th at 7:30 in the Little Theater.  Doors open 
at 7:00 and dinner, drinks and desserts will be available for purchase 
in the lobby.  Free to students, faculty and staff.  $10 general 
admission.

2.	The BHS Drama department has a few remaining discount tickets for 
our trip to see LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS at the Golden Gate Theatre! 
Student discount tickets are $25.50 per ticket.  The show will take 
place on Thursday, November 18th at 8 p.m.  Also, the Little Shop of 
Horrors, Students live, and the Berkeley High School Drama Department 
invite you to an exclusive after show education event. The presentation 
will last approximately 45 minutes.  For more information contact Mr. 
Scott McDonald, or Jordan Winer in A203.

3.	ATTENTION ALL Actors, singers, and Dancers:  Youth Musical Theater 
Company, which produced “West Side Story” last year, is holding 
auditions for its 2005 production: JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, a rock opera 
by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber.  Information Meetings and Audition 
Sign ups will
be held in the Berkeley High Choral room, A building on Thursday, 
November 18 at 5:30 am and Tuesday, November 18 at 5:30 and Tuesday, 
November 23 at 7:00.  See flyers posted around the school, or visit our

Sales
1.	Make sure you buy a yearbook.  The price is still $60.  They will go 
up soon.

2.	Come join the Black Student Union for a bake sell on the senior 
steps at lunch on Friday, November 19th.  All proceeds will go toward 
funds for the Black College tour.  Cookies, cupcakes, candy and more.
