The League of Women Voters of Berkeley, Albany and Emeryville has been kind
enough to join with BHS PTSA in co-sponsoring a School Board Candidate
debate on the BHS campus. The debate will be held in the Little Theater on
Tues. Oct. 19 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. As noted in a previous posting, the BHS
debate will be only one of several public debates among the candidates. All
of those in which the League is involved, including a debate organized by
the Berkeley PTA Council for Oct. 14 in Longfellow Auditorium, are listed on
its website http://lwvbae.org . Other sources may list additional events.
PTSA urges you to find a date when you can attend a school board candidate
debate. Bring your questions and prepare yourself to cast an informed vote
in this important race.

The School Board has five regular members, elected from the City at large,
who serve staggered four-year terms, plus a student representative, elected
annually by BHS students in the spring, who casts an advisory vote. In this
November's general election two seats on the School Board are up for
election. Five candidates are running for the two seats. More information,
including candidates' statements, can be found on the City of Berkeley
website www.ci.berkeley.ca.us/ .
