SAT WORD OF THE DAY: PROPENSITY - bias; bent; tendency. Edgar's propensity
to put off doing his homework until the last minute caused him to stay up
late many nights to finish his assignments.

SAT/ACT TEST DATES: - September 15 is the late registration deadline for the
October 9 SAT I and SAT II tests.  Saturday, September 17 is the regular
registration deadline for the October 23 ACT test.  IMPORTANT NOTE: -Cal
State Fullerton, Sonoma and San Diego State and several other CSU campuses
recommend  completion of the SAT by October.

SCHOLARSHIPS:- Cola-Cola Scholars Foundation -Scholarships from $4,000 to
$20,000.  Students are evaluated on demonstrated leadership, commitment to
community, academic achievement and employment.  Applications are available
on line at www.coca-colascholars.org.  Further information is available in
the College/Career Center.  Deadline:  October 31.


Ron Brown Scholar Program for academically talented, highly motivated
African American high school seniors who demonstrate academic achievement,
exhibit leadership ability, participate in community service activities and
demonstrate financial need.  $10,000 scholarship annually for four years,
for a total of $40,000.  Students must be U.S. citizens or permanent
residents.    Two deadlines:  November 15 to be eligible for Ron Brown and
several other scholarships; January 9 to be eligible for Ron Brown
Scholarship only.  Applications available in the College Center and at
www.ronbrown.org.  

KRON 4 Students Rising Above Scholarship.  This scholarship is for seniors
who have a GPA of 3.0 or above, have overcome obstacles not of their own
making, are low income, are committed to earning a college degree and have
been recommended by a teacher or counselor.  Applications are available at
the College/Career Center or at www.studentsrisingabove.org.  Applications
must be received by KRON by October 15.

REPEAT SECTION

FOR JUNIORS AND SENIORS - Saturday, October 2, College Information Day at UC
Berkeley, Wheeler Hall, 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Over 60 public and private
college and university representatives will participate. Workshops in

FREE SAT Prep for the new SAT (for the class of 2006 and beyond) will be
held at Berkeley High beginning September 22nd every Wednesday and Thursday
from 3:30 to 5:30.  Send an e-mail with your name, school name, phone number

BOWDOIN COLLEGE: - Seniors, if you are interested in Bowdoin, there will be
a reception for students and their parents on Tuesday, September 21, at 7:00
