SAT WORD OF THE DAY: LAVISH ­ lush; plentiful; extravagant.  The lavish
wedding dress was covered in rubies and diamonds.

SENIORS:  I will be speaking to your English classes beginning on September
13th and setting up individual appointments the following week.  Until then,
you may stop by at lunch or after school to get your questions answered.

UPCOMING COLLEGE VISITS ­ SIGN UP IN THE COLLEGE CENTER
September 8, 9:35 a.m.    Mt. Holyoke (MA)
September 15, 12:20 p.m.    University of Puget Sound (WA)

REMINDER:  If you are applying to private colleges which need a counselor
recommendation, your Senior Profiles are due on September 10th if you are
applying Early Decision or Early Action and September 24th for Regular
Decision.  You do NOT need to fill these out if you are applying only to the
UC¹s or Cal State Universities.

UPCOMING WORKSHOPS IN THE COLLEGE CENTER:
Early Decision/Early Action ­ Tuesday, September 14, 3:30 p.m.; Wednesday,
September 15, 7:30 a.m.; Monday, September 27, 3:30 p.m.

SENIOR PARENT NIGHT ­ Monday, September 20, 6:30 p.m. in the College/Career
Center, D221.  

SAT/ACT TEST DATES ­ Tuesday, September 7 is the regular registration
deadline for the October 9 SAT I and SAT II tests.  Saturday, September 17
is the regular registration deadline for the October 23 ACT test.  IMPORTANT
NOTE ­Cal State Fullerton, Sonoma and San Diego State and campuses recommend
completion of the SAT by October.

FOR JUNIORS AND SENIORS ­ Saturday, October 2, College Information Day at UC
Berkeley, Wheeler Hall, 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Workshops in English and

FREE SAT Prep for the new SAT (for the class of 2006 and beyond) will be
held at Berkeley High beginning September 22nd every Wednesday and Thursday
