Important Information for students of the Class of 2004 who were offered the
Guaranteed Transfer Option from a community college to a UC campus

Thanks to the new state budget agreement, the University of California will
offer freshman admission to UC-eligible freshman applicants who initially
were referred to community colleges this year.

Qualified California resident applicants who were not offered freshman
admission this fall at any UC campus and who received a Guaranteed Transfer
Option (GTO) offer from one or more campuses, WHETHER OR NOT THEY ACCEPTED
THE OFFER, will now be offered an opportunity to enter UC as freshmen.
Students who have accepted a GTO offer from UC will be able to continue in
GTO if they choose to do so.

If you receive the offer of admission from the UC campus and decide to
accept it, there are several things you must do:

1. Send in the Statement of Intent to Register by the date listed in the
offer. Remember to get a Certificate of Mailing from the post office to
prove that you sent it in on time or print out a copy if you do this online.

2. Fill out a Transcript Request Form in the Berkeley High registrar’s
office (D173) to send a copy of your final transcript to the UC campus. All
offers of admission are conditional on the UC campus receiving this
transcript.

3. If you applied for financial aid and did not send your FAFSA to the UC
campus where you were accepted, send your FAFSA to that campus now. You may
do so at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ or by calling (800) 4FEDAID
(800-433-3243).

For more information, go to http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/gto. The
Q&A and Next Steps sections are particularly helpful. If you have further
questions, you can write me at iabrams at berkeley.k12.ca.us. I will be out of
town from July 31 to August 8 and unable to answer e-mails during that time.
