1. The Berkeley High summer mailing was delivered to the post office on
Tuesday, July 27. Because it is bulk mailing the post office has up to three
weeks to deliver the information, however, most of us can expect to receive
the packet within the next 10 days. As always, the summer packet is full of
vital information though this year it is slightly lighter as many
announcements were folded into the newsletter. Please take the time to read
everything carefully.

2. Included in the packet is information on Orientation Week. All students
should attend orientation to pick up their class schedules, ID Cards,
organizers and pay fees. At this point, a makeup date has not yet been set.

Sophomores orientation is Tuesday, August 24
Last Name A-M from 9 a.m. to noon
Last Name N-Z 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Freshman orientation is Wednesday, August 25
Last Name A-M from 9 a.m. to noon
Last Name N-Z 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Junior and Seniors come in Friday, August 27
Last Name A-M from 9 a.m. to noon
Last Name N-Z 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

9th graders should go to the Little theater (enter on Allston Way) at the
beginning of their scheduled time
10th, 11th, and 12th graders should go to the Jacket Gym (in new building)
during their scheduled time.

The first day of School is Wednesday, September 1.

3. Caren Ohlson, Principal Slemp's assistant, is leaving the administration
at the end of July--though not Berkeley High. She will be working on a MS
in Counseling at San Francisco State University and will be interning at
Berkeley High three days a week. Those of us who had contact with Caren will
miss her. She was efficient, thorough and always of good cheer. Caren's
replacement is Kimberly Watson-Cox. Kimberly will take over Caren's desk and
telephone number. Her email is: Kimberly_Watson-Cox at berkeley.k12.ca.us.

4. Finally, I would like to thank the many parents, students and staff who
helped collate and assemble the summer mailing: Vanessa King, Ornit
Oppenheimer, Mary Olivella, Jill Martinucci, Susan Powning, Barbara Felkins,
Bobbie Rose, Desmid Lyon, Johan Philippine, Dominique Philippine, Future
Zhou, Masako Wickler, Carrie Blake, Hilary Roberts, Lori Ferguson, Carol
Lashof, Lauri Slana, Rebecca Creger, John Creger, Arden Petrov, Heather
Fong, Joe Shogren, Lindsay Wheeler, Joel Blumenfeld, Susan Helmrich,
Brigitte Little.

Everyone worked hard and made a difficult task possible! Thank you.
