STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN
April 22, 2004

Administration
1. Come celebrate the New D and E Buildings, the Jacket Gym and the
Marcia Singman Dance Studios on Sunday, April 25th from 1-5 pm.  Come 
represent
how awesome BHS students are by showing up with your family and friends.

After the ribbon is cut, there will be sports clinics, dance, music and
theatre performances, student – led tours, free food samples, and much
more.  See you there!

2. Seniors: if you missed the mandatory meeting yesterday, please stop 
by
the administration office and pick up the information packet.

3. BHS workday on Saturday, April 24, 9am – 12 noon.  Please join our
dedicated group of student, parent and teacher volunteers; pull weeds,
pick up trash and plant flowers.  Teachers: please give extra credit to
workday volunteers who have pink volunteer vouchers.  Bottled water,
snacks, garbage bags, disposable gloves, hoses and some tools provided.
Bring towels and weeding tools, work gloves, sunscreen/ hat.  Enter on
Allston Way register at Workday table in the lower courtyard. Thank you!

4. Come hear your Jacket classical musicians!  Free concert by the BHS
Concert Band and Orchestra on Thursday, April 22 at 7:30 pm in the
Community Theater.  Featuring Erika Oba, senior flute.

5. INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Washington Mutual has a two year has a two
year internship opportunity in the banking industry for a current 
sophomore
student.  Applications and more information is available in the
College/Career Center.  The position is open until filled, so get your
application in as soon as possible.

College Faire and Presentations: Tuesday, April 27, 10:35 –
Representatives from Union College and Hobart and William Smith College
will make a presentation about their schools and private colleges in
general in D221.  Sign up in D221.

Saturday, May 1, 1:00 to 3:00 pm East Bay College Fair at Cal State
Hayward.  Information including a list of colleges attending is
available in the College/Career Center.

Saturday, May 8, 1:00 – 4:30 pm – East Bay College Connection Fair at 
St.
Mary’s College.  Free shuttles from Orinda BART station to the fair.

6. Students: got a writing assignment due?  The Writer’s café is open at
lunchtime today.  We have writing coaches who can help you get your
assignment done.  Writer’s Café is open every Wednesday and Thursday at
lunchtime in H102, the old library.  Free snacks are included.  Come and
see us.

7. April is Poetry Month – come find the poetry of Maya Angelou,
Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Noami Shihab Nye, Tupac Shakur, Sandra Cisneros, 
Robert
Frost and many, many more.

8. Students who do not have a science test (EBC, BIO, CHEM, PHYSICS)
listed on the green sheet roster in your folder do not have to come
until 10:30 am tomorrow, Thursday, April 22, 2004.  They do not have a 
science
class or they are taking a non-college prep science course.  If in 
doubt,
ask me later today.

9. On Friday, April 23, 2004, 9th graders do not have to come to school
until 10:30 am.  9th graders do not have a Social Science Content
Standards Test on Friday.

Clubs
1. All Juniors and Seniors Ball Royalty Candidates must participate in
an Orientation meeting on Thursday, 4/22/04 in Conference room B at 
lunch.

2. No more slurs!  Fight back!  Come see the High Contrast photography
exhibit, celebrating youth diversity!  It’s in the new library all this
week. Teachers, sign up with a librarian to bring your classes.
Curriculum guides available when you sign up.  Perfect activity for
photography or IES classes!  Brought to you by Youth Together and the
Gay-Straight Alliance.

3. All Youth Together members and LSO’s.  Don’t forget there’s a meeting
on Thursday at 4:15 pm in C224 to finalize the Youth Forum and Unity
Week!

4. The BHS Mountain Bike team is nearing the end of its sixth season.
We’d like to invite Berkeley Unified staff to the State Championship
event on Sunday, May 2nd, in beautiful Walker Creek Ranch (near Tomales 
Bay in
West Marin). The competition is tough but Berkeley High has a good shot
at winning the state championships.

Sports


Senior Section
1. SENIOR AWARDS ASSEMBLY: Participate in the Awards Assembly to be held
on Tuesday, May 25th at 7:00 pm  Pick up a form in the College/ Career
Center to let us know about the honors and scholarships you have
received. Deadline: May 11.

2. Sophomores and Juniors: Come audition for Dance Production 2005.
Modern, Hip Hop, Jazz, Ballet- everyone is welcome.  Audition workshops
at lunch and after school starting today.  The Audition is Friday, April
23rd.  See Ms. Carr in the A building for more information.

Events/ Performance
1. The Spring Dance “Paradise at Night” is on!  The dance will be 
Friday,
May 7th @ 7:30 pm in the brand new BHS student Union.  Tickets are on
sale everyday at the community Theatre Box office@ lunch.  BHS students 
only.

Must have ID.  Tickets are $7.00.
2. This is a reminder for all teachers who are invited to the Unity
Assembly next Wednesday.  Please let Jan or Diana know whether or not
you will be taking your classes third and/or sixth period.

3. Come learn the truth about the Alamo is A105 today at lunch.  Food
and drink will be served.  Brought to you by the Raza club.

Sales
1. Juniors: Junior Prom tickets are on sale everyday @ lunch in the
Community Theatre Box office.  Tickets are $50.00 per person.  Don’t let
this event pass you by.  It will be off the hook!
